Vicko on Overtime

I'm confused as to his comments regarding players and Free-Agency.

In relation to Long, Melo, and CG, he seemed to be saying that they were not able to offer the players, because FA hadn't started?

That doesn't sound correct to me, I always thought that teams were free to re-sign their existing players, and they try to get that all sorted BEFORE FA starts.

He also said he was watching the Boomers training, but when asked about who, he said "Andersen was working out with Goorj". WTF?

Goorj was training Dech, Andersen and a few others at MCAC today. Vicko was there, but not sure how much he was actually watching.

To explain to those that don't quite understand what Vicko was talking about, it wasn’t in relation to them not being able to sign them, it’s more that teams have been hesitant to take on liabilities (contractual debt) before there is a league start date, as they would have to pay the players monthly without knowing is a season would commence. This is why they weren’t in a position to offer them one.

In relation to the Boomers comment, it’s also to protect the privacy of the players going through there, so take that into consideration.

Sometimes there’s only a certain amount they can say. What you can take from it all is that Goulding will he seeking a European deal for the coming season, hence, not signing him either.

But that's not what he said. He rabitted on blaming it on the delayed start to Free-Agency.
And besides, it doesn't make any sense. Any existing contracted player is already a so-called "liability" and some teams already have several. Whilst we may not know exactly what the competition will look like, and it may be subject to change if there are 3rd & 4th waves, a couple of extra weeks isn't going to change that.

The bigger issue facing the Melb teams is no crowds so the spending ability particularly committing earlier to expensive players like Goulding could really hurt the bottom line if the league is played in every other state other than VIC

You think the MU investors are gonna line up to have no revenue for an entire season and still pay players

(Pacific Media Shares down around 50% and they just raised capital with a significant amount of installment payments coming up for the recent purchases dragging on cash flows)

Vicko was fine on the interview.

I read the comments here before I listened, expecting some confusing moments. It really was anything but. Vicko wasn't blaming anything I thought. Strange here's getting some heat on here.

Same situation as always wirh Goulding when hes out of contract.
He always looks to Europe first before NBL.

With Melo and Long its probs a bit of both of not being in the
Right situation to sign players and the fact they were pretty poor
Defensively on the PnR throughout the season.

Long and Melo had pretty poor seasons so MU have no interest in signing guys that win you as many games as Bris/NZ and if not for luck would have finished 7th.

Long & Melo showed they simply aren't winners at this level and the Korean League is probably the right level for them
