Breakers sign Colton Iverson

Came across this on ESPN and hadn't seen anything posted so thought I'd share.

https://www.espn.com.au/nbl/story/_/id/29857075/nbl-new-zealand-breakers-sign-second-final-import-colton-iverson

Should be a real solid piece for NZ.

They said they were going 7 foot and it looks like they found just the right type of player they needed: strong and mobile. A perfect foil for Loe and gives them someone to handle the likes of Bogut and Plumlee.

Hard to get excited about.

Better than pledger? Honest question

Is that a serious question? Look at where he has played as an import versus Pledger. And his videos look at his footwork carefully, he is far more mobile and athletic than Pledger. 10 and five in 20 minutes per game in Euro league teams is pretty decent. The only area perhaps he is lacking is rim protection.

I haven't watched any vids or done any research on him.

Hence I could be being grosslyy unfair in him. With that in mind ill throw some stuff out there

- Plumlee has better pedigree, and he didn't set the world on fire at perth.
- can't remember too many 7 foot centres imports doing that well in out league.
- look like a stiff to me.

Call me in.

He's played in Israel so Shamir knows what’s he’s getting.

One local spot to go and a NS.

T.Webster / Weeks
Patterson / C.Webster
Abercrombie /
Delaney / Trist
Iverson / Loe

DP’s: Terry Li, Taine Murray, Kyrin Galloway

He might be a bit of a stiff he hardly set the world on fire in the Euroleague last season but in saying that he was playing in the Euroleague the highest standard there is outside of the NBA and the Breakers are not going to need him to tear it up he's there to replace Ashley hit the boards maybe block the odd shot and allow Patterson & the Webster's go to work offensively.

With Iverson, the Breakers seem to be moving away from a 'run at all costs' mandate that they have had the last few seasons into ensuring we have the players to play half-court sets well. Seems like Shamir's influence coming to the fore. From the Iverson highlights I've seen, he seems to love the PnR; it doesn't surprise me that they've paired up Tai Webster with a Euro big (rather than the Hampton/Ashley combo of last season).

Also very nice to have some additional height - as much as I love the hyper-athletic 6'9' guy, now we know we have the size to combat Bogut (if he returns), Plumlee or any of the other bigs out there.

There's plenty of video on him on YouTube. He has very good fundamentals. He sets very good screens, can pass out of the roll and post, and his time in Israel was with Maccabi. He’s a very good player to put alongside creators like the Webster bro’s and Patterson. You don’t survive as long as he did with the better clubs in Europe if you can’t execute the basics well.

@mystro

I can promise you if Corey Webster is asked to come off the bench it will be that teams undoing lol. The same thing happened a few years ago when they bought Kirk Penney back and he did not take it very well

I see the depth chart like this:

T.Webster / Weeks
C. Webster / Rusbatch or NS
Patterson / Abercrombie
Delaney / Trist
Iverson / Loe

No doubt Corey will start, but I doubt he's closing games, particularly on the defensive end. Most likely Abercrombie, Delany and Patterson will close - they'll pick a Webster brother and Iverson/Loe depending on matchups.

Olgun's reporting that Iverson's a good team guy. Who would've thought Matt Walsh could sign two imports who are good team guys.

The full kit could be...

Webster / Weeks / Li
Webster / NS / Murray
Patterson / Abercrombie / Samuel
Delany / Trist / Galloway
Iverson / Loe / Wynyard

Linked as a dp.

Trist costs a lot more money than 2 dps.

"Do I remember him on the C's years ago?"

You are correct. Drafted end of the 2nd round 2013 by Indiana and traded to Celtics. Was on Celtics Summer League roster 2013 & 14, but shipped off overseas both times. I can only barely remember watching him play now, but I always saw him as an extreme long shot to make the roster.

Melbourne could give them a run depending on Hopson, c import and ns.

Mccarron / Ili / Short
Goulding / Baba / McDaniel
Hopson(I) / White
Barlow / NS / Peatling
(I) / Acuil

So Melbourne could give them a run with two players that are not contracted yet. I hope you're not a gambler and back what might happen.

SEM could be favourites too if LeBron and Davis play, have I got it.

I would start Corey along side Tai as well and play Rausbatch as the backup 2.
Bring Abercrombie off the bench behind Patterson.

It makes a lot more sense and will keep Corey happy in his role but the Breakers did say a while ago their plan was to play him off the bench as a scoring punch.

Iverson will be a decent piece in the Breakers puzzle and Loe played well last season when his skull wasn't fractured.

I like what they have put together so far.
