NZB v SEM Mar 14

Last couple of games in the NBL Cup. Melbourne are at risk of dropping out of third. SEM with a full 7 points jump to second so plenty of incentive there. Breakers with 7 points could jump to third (what's the rules for a tie?) SEM could win 3 quarters and that gives them third place, then throw a quarter to lose the game, Breakers get 4 points and go no-where.. If you're a SEM fan, you'ld be mad to miss this one

Due to a schedule clash the live FTA broadcast of this game has been moved from SBS to ESPN and instead will be shown on NITV on Tuesday night after the Celtics/Lakers documentary.

Winner Of The NBL Cup

The team with the most Points wins the tournament and the inaugural NBL Cup.
If teams have the same number of points at the end of the tournament, then the team with the most number of wins would be declared the winner. If multiple teams have the same number of wins then the best +/- record (total points FOR / less AGAINST) would be declared the winner.
Finally if teams have the same +/- record then the team with the most points FOR will be declared the winner. The NBL Cup will be presented to the winning team at the conclusion of the Tournament.

Let's see what's on instead - Australian Superbikes - WTF? NBL still being disrespected.

Anyway according to Boti the Breakers released Patterson when he got injured but haven't announced it yet. WMW has been signed as a temp replacement for C-Web even though he hasn't arrived yet and has to do 2 weeks in quarantine so I think once C-Web comes back they'll say WMW is staying on as the replacement for Patterson.

Me on the other game thread this morning, they just showed Patterson sitting on the Breakers bench so there goes this.

Wow. And the talk from the refs to the Breakers is incredibly unprofessional.

Phoenix really smooth offensively. They'll be tough once Broekoff gets going.

That's 3 horrible, wrong calls in just over a 1/4 of basketball. All against NZB, but I’d be protesting if they were against SEM too. The Bach USF he makes a play at the ball, gets the ball, and incidentally gets the arm of Wetzell (who is 6’10") but Wetzell is completely unaffected.

Nice explanation of tie-break rules above, but what's the +/- scenario for Brisbane and SEM at the moment? Do SEM just have to win the game from here because they're up on +/-? Or do they have to win the 4th and avoid the tie?

Casey just said SEM only need to win the game don't need to with the 4th.

The USF was for the right arm wrapping around his waist, not for the left arm swiping at the ball. Correct call.

Standard from the refs. It never changes, in fact they seem to get worse.

Anyway the Breakers were never going to win this. It was their 3rd game in 5 days and they're playing with half a team. Feel for them with all the injuries on top of what was already a tough season.

Phoenix are missing 2 starters in Pineau & Sykes, plus bench players Gibbbo and Kendal Stephen's. NZ missing 1 starter in C Webster plus 2 bench players in Patterson & Loe.

Both teams played Tues, Frid, Sun

Loe started 4 of his 5 games this year and 19 of his 22 last year, so probably classifies as a starter.

Okay, so Loe was a starter, doesn't change the fact that they were in the same boat in terms of injuries/absent players & games played this week

Mate, you're putting Webster and Patterson in the same class as Pineau, Sykes, Gibbo and Stephens?

Sykes is maybe nearly as influential, but Gibbo is a has been and Stephens has never been much at all.

The aren't in the same boat because EVERY GAME was played in Melbourne and the Breakers have no home games this season.

Lets not act like the Breakers aren’t massively disadvantaged this season from the jump.

Melbourne teams are playing their 'away' games at home, while the Breakers are playing an entire season on the road, living out of hotels, away from their families for months. Don’t ever say we’re in the same boat.

This season is set up for Melbourne teams to succeed.

that was your original point, I was simply pointing out that SEM also have a bunch of injuries and played the same amount of games this week.

He is better than duds like Pinder and Trist.

I would have liked NZ to sign Anderson as a back up big.
Great veteran locker room presence and the ability to stretch the floor.

Instead it appears they have a log jam at SG/SF.

Weeks
C.Webster*
Bach
Abercrombie
McDowell White
Randolph

Where as PF/C

Iverson
Trist
Galloway (DP)
Delaney

Mystro

It is a ridiculous line up and makes me question whether Shamir and Walsh know what a basketball is.

I'll also add galloway is 3 or a 4. Not a 4 or a 5.

I'd also rather see delaney slide down to the 3, than to the 5.

Trist can't play. He's like a lamp post that turns the ball over

That leaves iverson.

I agree Bigdog. Only saving grace is that most other teams don't have legit centres and are just playing mobile 4's.

Shamirs thinking was that Corey and Lamar were the "creators" who could be given the ball as the shotclock winds down and manufacture a decent look. Where as Delaney, Bach and Abercrombie are guys who will find shots within the structure of the offense.
