Rating each teams preseason recruiting so far

Great
- Jack Jumpers - Filled up a strong contingent of players and with some decent imports could be competitive. Impressive but they needed to be very active starting out

- 36ers - grabbed Macarron , resigned Humphries, picked up King as a a next star - good nucleus to get back to finals if they get their imports right

- New Zealand - a lot of big names still on contract, re-signed Tai Webster. Get a few decent imports and they could crack the top spots. Question marks on their coaching , having more on paper than Goorjan last season they were the underperformers of the league - even factoring in travel

Good
- Melbourne making veteran recruits with Della, Newley and hung on to very promising Acul. Will need strong imports to balance out ageing team and a more even league next season

- Illawarra - Reath looks to be a great pickup , locked in Harvey for 3 years

- Sydney - extended some of their starters from last season with Cooks and Jarrel but some big names like Moller, Newley havent been filled

- SE Melbourne - locked in some of the better Aussie guards in the league with Adnam and Pineau both of which could of been attractive pickups for other teams - get 3 solid imports and they could do better this coming season

Poor
- Wildcats down a championship coach , come up empty so far on the free agent market and lost some of their bench scoring - bringing back a noticeably ageing Wagstaff , DP's and Majok Majok who provided 4-5 minutes a game under Gleeson. With Mooney gone, will they be able to get a rabbit out of the hat with another Rookie import. With last minute coaching drama not expecting a strong preseason recruitment from them - all come down to imports and big question on what the new coach does. Bench looking vulnerable - which could be repeat of the last season and being prone to injury.

- Cairns - have some of their imports on contract but we have seen much of their limited depth head elsewhere for opportunities. Their 3rd import will be critical and Oliver coming back may also be unlikely. Risk keeping the wooden spoon even with JJ's starting up this season

- Brisbane - not added any big names, though have kept much of their aussie nucleus. If your a Brisbane fan there's not a lot of positive news coming from the team

#799 you sir have provided a very scholarly response with your own insights and opinions on what is a well thought out post. Oh wait - you just banged your head on the keyboard to get that 3 word response.

Wait, did he say the Jack Jumpers recruitment is "great"? Wow.

Jarrod Weeks? Fabian? Bairstow? Yup, knocking it out the park!

#900, #799 is right though, it's a load rubbish. For starters Tasmania never got one of the main three players they wanted and recruited players no one wants bar magnay, and McDaniel and McVeigh who really have not been tested as quality starters.

I stopped reading after that point. What is great is how it was written right at the beginning of the post.

Loving the amount of time people ie anons are spending having cheap shots at the Jackjumpers. Lot of bored anons out there feeling the need to have an opinion.

Kay went to Japan
Norton got the $s he wanted
Reath went to a team coached by the Australian coach (yep would have loved him at the JJs)

List is still coming together, I would not rate their pre-season as great: good not poor. I will judge their list after next season.

Roth is revelling in bringing some players together with something to prove - prime example McVeigh.

Lot under rating McDaniel / Krslovic and the upside of Magnay along with

Dare I say they currently have as strong a list as Perth!

Clause was 48 hours on Gleeson moving on, time over. JJ's talked about it and how Kay , Moller and Norton were joining, none signed. They have been chasing their tale ever since.
I think most punters are happy to see JJ’s do well, would have been better to sign players before shooting from the hip who they were getting. Disappointing to to see no one from Tasmania having much to do with the team.

Yeah, I wish them all the best as well.
Recruiting for a new franchise in Tassie would be a very different proposition to recruiting for a new franchise in Melbourne. I hope they can land some big ones but I fear that might have to come via the imports rather than locals, and that hasn't really been a formula for success in this league.

Still hoping the public will jump on board, especially after how long the AFL has been disrespecting the state with its token gestures.

Fleur McIntyre and Kevin Lisch Named Kings Assistant Coaches

Following the recent appointment by the Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings that Chase Buford would be taking over the reigns as the Club's new Head Coach, the Kings have now locked in their remaining coaching staff ahead of the upcoming Hungry Jack’s NBL22 season.

Two-time NBL MVP and former Kings captain Kevin Lisch will remain as an Assistant Coach under Buford, while the Kings are also excited to welcome new Assistant Coach Fleur McIntyre to Sydney.

You got a good one in Fleur!

It's hard to say that the JJ's have been "Great"
They have assembled a decent bench, and one (potentially very good) key play in Magnay, albeit on only a 1 yr deal.
But it's all still to be done.
The next fours signings will make or break them.

Too early to call on MU. Yes they've continued their policy of throwing cash. That's netted them Brad not-so-Newley to polish the bench, and Delly to replace Landale.
And of course rushed to re-sign the ageing and injury prone Barlow.
They're got a great core, and if they sign 3 gun imports, they will be truly formidable.

Good post Luuuc - Tasmanian taxpayer has propped up Hawthorn and North for a long time - the AFL has treated Tasmania with disdain hoping Tasmania takes this opportunity with the Jackjumpers. Hoping for a strong franchise that will last and be valued down here. They have been professional so far hoping the recruiting works.

Yep it is a fine line with relying on imports for a franchise but the JJ's are attempting to embrace the whole of the State.

Once the team is established there will be scope for more Tasmanians and others to be part of the roster. There will be the opportunity for more Marcus Bellchambers, Peter Mann, Stanwix brothers, Estourt, Nash, Stewart, Goulding, Knight etc to be part of the team. Still need the Carfino's, Hursts, McDaniels, Stiff's, Perry's, Smiths etc to complement the locals.

Tasmanian's are not naive enough to think the JJs to believe the team should be full of locals...would like the opportunity for Reyne Smith, Taran Armstrong, Jack Stanwix, Luke Brown etc to have opportunity.

Dufelmeir, Stanwix, should be on the roster already ahead of a 32 year old Weeks, yes both are young but clearly the future even if in Stanwix just to be around the team and learn. Dufelmeir would contribute more than Weeks already.

Perth still has cotton, Norton, Blanchfield, Travers and retained shervil (a dp who can easily be in the rotation of the bench). Wagstaff and majok take care of your 4 and 5 bench. Not a terrible place to be...

Sure they lost clint, loved what he did for the cats even when his shot wasn't dropping but personel wise they look ok, they also always have a tendency of filling import spots later than others.

Coach is a huge loss, but it's an opportunity for him and an opportunity for the next great coach to hopefully make their mark in a similar fashion!!

For Perth, having so many players signed may not be a good thing now that there's going to be a coaching change.

Need one signed ASAP because a coachless club under new ownership is not an appealing FA destination.

Adelaide. Good in getting McCarron and Ķing while keeping Humphries. Their season hinges on right imports. Though you could say that about all teams.

Brisbane. Meh
Cairns. Meh
Illawarra. Harvey and Reath is a great start.
Melbourne. Will be just as strong now with more imports and Dellavedova.
New Zealand. Stacked on paper, a test of how good Shamir is as a coach.
Perth. Shit so far. Good to keep Norton though.
SEM. Waiting on import news.
Sydney. Good so far.
Tasmania. Ok Aussies obviously need great imports.
