Rating each teams preseason recruiting so far
Great
- Jack Jumpers - Filled up a strong contingent of players and with some decent imports could be competitive. Impressive but they needed to be very active starting out
- 36ers - grabbed Macarron , resigned Humphries, picked up King as a a next star - good nucleus to get back to finals if they get their imports right
- New Zealand - a lot of big names still on contract, re-signed Tai Webster. Get a few decent imports and they could crack the top spots. Question marks on their coaching , having more on paper than Goorjan last season they were the underperformers of the league - even factoring in travel
Good
- Melbourne making veteran recruits with Della, Newley and hung on to very promising Acul. Will need strong imports to balance out ageing team and a more even league next season
- Illawarra - Reath looks to be a great pickup , locked in Harvey for 3 years
- Sydney - extended some of their starters from last season with Cooks and Jarrel but some big names like Moller, Newley havent been filled
- SE Melbourne - locked in some of the better Aussie guards in the league with Adnam and Pineau both of which could of been attractive pickups for other teams - get 3 solid imports and they could do better this coming season
Poor
- Wildcats down a championship coach , come up empty so far on the free agent market and lost some of their bench scoring - bringing back a noticeably ageing Wagstaff , DP's and Majok Majok who provided 4-5 minutes a game under Gleeson. With Mooney gone, will they be able to get a rabbit out of the hat with another Rookie import. With last minute coaching drama not expecting a strong preseason recruitment from them - all come down to imports and big question on what the new coach does. Bench looking vulnerable - which could be repeat of the last season and being prone to injury.
- Cairns - have some of their imports on contract but we have seen much of their limited depth head elsewhere for opportunities. Their 3rd import will be critical and Oliver coming back may also be unlikely. Risk keeping the wooden spoon even with JJ's starting up this season
- Brisbane - not added any big names, though have kept much of their aussie nucleus. If your a Brisbane fan there's not a lot of positive news coming from the team
