NBA do drug test DURING games?

NBA ends in-game tests
From correspondents in New York
09dec05
The US National Basketball Association will no longer perform doping tests during games after a Seattle SuperSonics player missed part of a match while undergoing a test.

Sonics forward Reggie Evans was away from the bench for the first two minutes of the third quarter of this week's game with the New York Knicks while taking the test.

He returned to action late in the quarter and played the remainder of the game. Several teammates complained his absence may have contributed to the loss to the Knicks.

In a statement, the NBA said: "Our policy does not require a player to take a drug test at any point during a game, and we will ensure going forward that no testing is conducted during this time."

I find it amazing that they actually did this and that the players association allowed it to happen.Imagine:

Phil" Where is Brett?"

NBL Official" he cant play yet because he has not finished peeing in a bottle."

amazing stuff

Why would there be a difference to the sample during the game compared to after the game. Is there something I'm missing as surely the drug would still be in the system.

Nah, you have to read the full story.

He was scheduled to do a test BEFORE the game, but he forgot about it and didn't rock up. Then when he heard that if he didn't do it, he would get in heaps of trouble, he scheduled it for half time.

What he didn't realise was that you have to sign about 20 pieces of paper to leagally hand over the drug test, so he was late back to the game.

If he rocked up for his initial test it wouldn't have been a problem. Also, if he knew it would take so long, he would have scheduled it for immediately after the game.

So, its not as bad by the NBA as first sounds.

"Warned that a failure to comply before he left the building that night would constitute a positive test, he re-booked for halftime. What Evans didn't know is the test is done in a room apart from the locker room, and it is really a test -- he must read and sign paperwork regarding chain of custody for the sample."
