Tomlinson steps down

ALBURY-Wodonga Lady Bandits coach Ray Tomlinson has announced his resignation from the team due to health reasons.

Tomlinson, the 1994 WNBL Coach of the Year and a WNBL Honour Roll life member, told the players of his decision following their 121-41 loss to the Kilsyth Lady Cobras in on Saturday night.

Team president Gary Jackson said Tomlinson's contribution had been immeasurable and his knowledge and experience would be missed. "The contribution he's had in such a short time has been fairly dramatic," he said. "He's given the team some direction and professionalism, which is what the club desperately needed. "But at the end of the day, someone's health has to come first."

Tomlinson has been battling diabetes for an extended period and he said the stress of coaching the Lady Bandits, combined with some family issues both in Australia and overseas led to his resignation. "It (health) was a consideration even before I took on the job," he said. "Diabetes is something I've had for a while and it's simply not getting any better, it's gotten worse really.
