Lightning tournaments

In my youth (that sounds old), but we used to have lightning tournaments.

Each game would be 10/15 minutes.
All the teams for a particular age group are at one venue,

And more importantly, the whole tournament is finished i one day.

The social aspect for parents is goods, and kids from different teams can socially mix, whilst watching the kids from the other teams.

It becomes a days event, with minimal travelling, and the club holding the tournament, makes good money on the catering.

Depending on how many teams are playing, one can play 5 to 8 games

The finals are a little longer. [15/20 minutes]

Is there place for such a tournament in Adelaide?

those were the days.
Robyn Turnbull running lightning carnivals for juniors.
Bring them back I say and have the district clubs recruit from these carnivals.

Each venue should run at least one each year to raise money.

So were these for juniors already playing or new players or both?

Well the ones at modbury were open for anyone to join, we had teams that were already playing at modbury as well as teams from turramurra, teams from salvos and church basketball too. I remember Justin Wilkey used to play out there many years ago - I would be guessing but it was probably the first place he played. It wasnt run by BASA - maybe that is why it worked :)

oh to add to 99113 - it was mainly juniors (well that is what I was playing), but I am pretty sure that they had open carnivals also, over a weekend I think it was.

Sounds like a good Idea. Do we have time in our busy lives? I bet we do.
