Bradtke Retires

Sad to see. What a champion. Wherever he played, truly awesome.

The National Basketball League has lost a long-serving legend of the game with 20 year veteran and former Most Valuable Player Mark Bradtke announcing his retirement.

A winner of the NBL's MVP award in 2002, the competition's all-time leader in rebounds with 6283 and a selection in both the League's 20th Season and 25th Anniversary teams, Bradtke was one of the most dominant big-men ever to play in Australia.

I hear that he will be moving back to Melbourne and his wife will pursue her career as a coach on the pro tour.

Im not sad to see him finally retire. Has been a great consistent player over long period, but its time for another younger big to dominate the league.

Unquestionably, the greatest centre in NBL history, Australian or American. Bradtke was also, from an SA perspective, the last remaining player to have represented the Sixers during the Apollo years.

Andrew you are spot on about Bradtke's shoes hitting the pine at Apollo while no other existing current player who is on an active roster of an NBL club can claim to have done that. Its the closing of the doors on an era that silly fans didn't really see when they booed and booed him for every game for many years everytime he touched the ball. Instead we should have been thankful to whatever or something up there that we could still watch the old Apollo man.

Thank you Andrew for this information because I was unaware of it until you posted it here.

As a side note, how good is Arcade Fire's new album. Sensational!
