Country girls lose opener

The Country girls have lost their opener against NSW Country. By all accounts they were very competitive but couldn't convert opportunities.

Metro girls went down by 3 points to Queensland South which makes it a tough road back. 2 easy games and then NSW. They also may have copped an injury to one of their stars.

Re the country game, It was good to see in the stats that the first year players were amongst the points. They will be quite strong next year.

The girls pools' are weaker than usual so if ever the two SA teams were going to step up to the plate and medal this is the year, go SA.

Country girls just beat QLD North by 18 points. That puts them at 3 and 1 with WA Country and Vic Metro to play. Probably finish 3rd in their pool.

Metro girls just lost a game they should have won and piled up a whopping 36 turn overs which highlighted a major weakness they needed to improve on with the majority of their ball handlers having, to say the least, average ball security.
Country are on track for a higher finish than metro which hasn't happened for quite some time.

ghostwhowalks,

I love the way that you can sit back in Adelaide and work out an issue without seeing a game.

Did you even bother looking at the stats?

Do you know which players play point guard for that team?

The starting point guard had only 2 turnovers.

If you really want to help those players improve, you need to consider improving the competition. Rather than allowing West and South to play in the competition, you would be better of having Sturt 2 and eith North of Forestville 2.

Promotion/relegation is the only way you can help these players improve. If they don't play ahrd gaems each week, when they get away to these tournaments they struggle when the pressure if on.

Look at why Victoria are regularly better than NSW. One state has a qualifying series (vic) the other has clubs guarenteed spots. (nsw)

Victory 11, answering this would identify players so I'd refer you back to the stats which reveal a the picture.
Guards need to be on the court to do their job, if they're not, usually there's a reason and stats tell us that.
When this team was selected a query revolved around if they had the all round ball security under pressure and that goes beyond the guards. Most of the team has to be able to bring the ball down especially when foul trouble is encountered and be able to pass safely.
The team is entirely second year players so there is very little excuse for being unable to play under pressure and I assume the selectors had seen all the players, play over that time, which should have rung some bells. Clearly the coaches felt that they had the offensive game to counter the turn overs and against the lower ranked teams thats so.
I agree entriely with a pro / rel comp but convince the clubs of that.

Country are playing Vic for a chance to make the final 4 today but unfortunately metro are out of medal contention.
