NH - Darren "Boof" Lehmann Announces Retirement

REDBACKS champion Darren Lehmann has announced his retirement from first-class cricket.

Lehmann, 37, told a press conference in the Gil Langley Room at Adelaide Oval this morning that he would end his sparkling career after the Pura Cup match against Western Australia, starting on Friday.

Bye Bye Boof

Sad day for Boof and SA Cricket. Boof is a legend of this state and it will be sad to see him go. Would have been nice to see him have one last year to go around and say goodbye but the state of the Redbacks is in disarray at the moment.

How knows if he was asked to leave or if he left under his own terms but will be missed. The best SA batsmen of the last 20 years, great cricketer and a good bloke.

Happy retirement Boof!

I reckon he left before he was pushed unfortunately.

Always liked watching him play for Australia and complaining when he got dropped or should've made teams. (Also spent a privileged number of months living across the road from him!)

Perhaps should have one out at the end of last season.

Still a champion bloke though and a SA cricketing legend.

Sad to see him not finish at the end of the season. Hope he smashes the bowlers around this weekend and goes out with style.
Seems that there are some others associated with this team who should follow Boof into 'retiring' from 'admin' roles with SA cricket.

Yep, great man, great bloke. Have met him quite a few times. Not the ideal ending, but what a career.

I guess to make it basketball-related, you can draw conceivable and realistic comparisons between Boof and Brett Maher and it will be an equally sad day when Mahersey officially calls it a day - both reached the pinnacles of their chosen professions, both dudded to certain degrees at international level, both have reached the nadir at team sport level before in recent years almost single-handledly carrying the load for an underperforming team. Above all both terrific ambassadors for their sport and their State, Maher with more of a boy-nextdoor, goody two shoes image, while Boof was more of a larrikin, racal-type.

Goodbye Boof, you'll be missed.

(Mod: Nice comparison.)

Absolute champion forced out by the Redbacks. A disgraceful way to treat our best ever player who is still the best player in the side. The SACA board is a disgrace they have been making bad decisions for 10 yesr and get away with it.

Boof you will be badly missed.

Great player, great bloke, pity the split doesn't sound as amicable as it should be.
