Locked: iPhone Worth Getting?

Just wondering who on here has bought an iphone. Are they as good as they look? Is it worth laying down 400-500 bucks for one?

Currently, you can't get one in Australia but you can import them from the US. There are ways to get the software to work in Australia as well.

It's definitely worth getting. I've used one before because one of my mates have one. It's an iPod, phone, organizer and much more. Definitely worth forking out the dough for it.

"It's an iPod, phone, organizer and much more"

Most phones do that these days. If you want something similar to the iphone but personally I'd say is better go for the KU990(Viewty) and there are also some other damn good phones coming out. 5mp camera and is also a 3g phone whereas an iphone is only 2mp and 2g. It's whether you want to seem 'cool' and have an iphone.

Nokia N95 for me. Get yourself an 8gb card for it off ebay. Awesome phone. 5mp camera, SatNav and it even makes calls.

I just like it how the iphone is also an ipod. if look at it buying an iphone for $400 then that seems a lot but it's a lot cheaper when you realisze your buying a phone for $200 and an ipod for $200.

I have an iPod touch. Brilliant. Apple also released the SDK for iPhone and iPod touch today, so there will be TONS of new software for it soon.

Not a fan of the Nokia N95, my flatmate's got one and it's confusing to use, sat nav doesn't work and it's kind of chunky. I would get an iphone in a heartbeat if they came with more than 16gb of memory, I take my ipod with me everywhere I go and if I could use it as a phone as well that would be one less thing to carry, problem is I've got 25gb plus on the ipod and I don't want to have to do a cull.

If you've not got loads of music and you think you'd use the ipod part of it then it makes sense, but if you've got heaps of music then you're better waiting till a higher capacity one comes out. You can also surf the net with wifi which comes in handy.

my mate Percee P who I did the tour with in January had the ipod touch, was wicked, but was saying that he didn't rate the iphone that highly, and from what I have heard from other people that have it, and that know all the details on it, its way over priced and is nowhere as good as people make it out to be

Billo, sounds like ya mate needs to update the firmware. My SatNav didnt work at the start but once i upgraded it, it worked fantastically. Used it all around the UK last year. You can also use the Sports tracker on it which works like what the AFL players wear these days to track their performance.
N95 also has WiFi and can be used as a VoIP fone too.

I'm writing this from my iPhone now. Easy and fun to use. I use it quite a lot for the online browsing if I can't be bothered getting a laptop out. Got mine quite early and it's unlocked to work on Optus. All the hacked apps and games coming out are a bit of fun. Has a few flaws, especially running hacked without EDGE, but I'm enjoying it regardless.

If you have a question or want more details, drop me an email - there's a contact link at the top of the page.

The iPhone rocks, I've had mine for about 6 months now and its truly awesome. I thought I'd never move away from Nokias but I don't think I'll go back now.

There are downsides though. No MMS, no video recording, no GPS... however if you keep an eye on a few of the Apple sites, most of these issues are being addressed and you'd imagine with the SDK being formally released, its only the beginning.

Just be aware you can't run it on the 3 Network, wrong sim type. I'm on Virgin along with the data plan and whilst slow, it does the job well. Get it on Wifi though and its excellent.

Billo, was looking at the apple website the other day and noticed that there is a 32 GB version of the touch. Not sure if there is a 32 gig iphone though.

Skip, that's interesting what you say about the satnav, I thought his didn't work because you needed a license for it here in the UK but to hear that yours worked fine over here makes me think he should do some research. It's certainly a thorough phone and I'm sure once you work out how to use it it's great, my flatmate's happy with it even though he uses none of the features!

TR, that's about 5000 songs plus a bunch of video podcasts and whatnot, no porn though, as if I'd walk around with that in my pocket, what if a girl wants to look at my songs and stumbles across that!!

Anon 177041, I'm pretty sure when first releases the touch had choices of 8gb or 16gb and the iphone was 4gb or 8gb. The iphone is now up to 16gb and the touch apparently up to 32gb, looks like they're keeping the iphone just that one step behind. Soon enough the capacities will rise, the reason they're so low compared to the classic ipods is that they use flash memory (like a camera memory card) rather than a spinning harddrive and at the moment flash memory had capacity restraints (although they seem to be making massive breakthroughs every 5 or 6 minutes in this field)

Depending on the quality 16G of porn is about 4 hours worth. Reduce the quality and you can squash more on it. I like quality and my set top box had a 160G hard drive but that only had about 96 hours of the best quality stuff on it. Then I upgraded to the Granddaddy 500 Gig. Over a weeks worth. Do you know how many Ooohs and Aaahs that is.
