That might be becasue (and i reckon i'm the only person who knows this) Dr. James Niasmith, the guy who invented basketball also invented netball (which was womens basketball at the time).

Netball on TV is a joke. They can show as many games of netball as they want. Its the same deal as with NBL why it is not on free to air... because no one will watch it.

When the money runs dry, and it will, they will be in the same boat as the NBL.

If the NBL wants to out muscle netball on TV it comes down to $$, something the NBL does not seem to have (along with good buisness brains)

in the know, I'm with you, I knew that.

Dr James Naismith.

You know it took them 5 years to cut a hole in the bottom of the peach baskets? Used to sit a kid up near the basket and when someone scored, kid would reach in and retrieve the ball. 5 years of that before some genius whipped out a pocket knife, cut the basket and fired the kids.

Can't believe people knocking netball when more people play it here than basketball. Check out the three people in the audience at an ABL game and then go to an equivalent level netball game and you may understand why basketball lags behind most sports in Australia.
Basketball is a product very few want in Australia and only the players themselves follow it so wise up and make it attractive to a wider audience, lose the snobbery and superior attitude that keeps it 'cultish' and we might increase participation and interest.

Maybe Netball is much more successful in this country because they don't use old retired has-been players to run and administer it.

Anyone listening to triple J drive show tonight when Dules mentioned how bugger all people in Australia are interested in basketball ?
