36ers vs Wildcats, Oct 25

A few facts from the NBL in the lead up to Saturday night's game:

ADELAIDE 36ERS VS PERTH WILDCATS
Distinctive Homes Dome
Saturday October 25
Live audio on ABC 891

2009 meetings: Round 13 at Perth; Round 20 at Adelaide
All-time record: 36ers 39, Wildcats 46
Streak: Perth have a current four-game win streak against Adelaide.

Brett Maher returns to play his first home game since he clocked up game number 500 in Canberra back on September 27th. This will be his 504th game, which sees him draw level with Perth Hall-of-Famer James Crawford on the all-time game splayed list.

So far this season Adelaide have allowed their opposition to score an average of 40 field baskets a game to be statistically the worst in the league while Perth give up a league best 30.8 per contest.

The 36ers are undefeated at home in two games this season but have gone winless on their four-game run away from the Dome. Adelaide follow up this match with a home game against Sydney and then four more away games in a run of five matches.

If Perth are forced to foul in a close game it will be a good bet that the Wildcats will know who not to send to the charity stripe. So far this year three of Adelaide's starters have not missed from the free-throw line with Aaron Bruce shooting 16-from-16, forward Adam Ballinger a perfect 12-from-12 and guard Brett Maher a straight shooting 10-from-10. The rest of the team are averaging just over 68%.

Wildcats guard Adam Caporn will be playing NBL game 150 in this one. Caporn played 122 consecutive games after his debut with the Hawks in 2004 before a knee injury put him out of the game for 10 months. Despite appearing in 44 games for the Wildcats, This will be the first time that Caporn will play for Perth against the 36ers in Adelaide.

Perth will coming off an eight-day break prior to this match which is the longest of their season so far after playing 10 games between the 17th of September and the 17th of October. This game starts a run of one game per round for the Wildcats for the next five weeks.

This will be the first head to head meeting for the only two new coaches in the NBL this season. Adelaide and Perth will be playing against each other for the 88th time, with the Wildcats 46 time winners over the 36ers (39 victories) the most games any two teams have played head to head in NBL history.
Also:
Last week against the Sixers the Hawks put up 94 shots - the most ever under Eric Cook's coaching - making 45 (47.8%).

A huge game for us. I would expect that we'll get a boost from being at home for the first time in a month (nice schedule by the way). A much better defensive effort is what is required to get the job done. Perth will be hungry for the win, having been about as up and down as we have. I always look forward to seeing Redhage play, and last time they were here Loughton was effective in curbing Ballinger's impact. Crawford killed us too last time, closer attention needs to be paid to him.

Should be a great game to watch. We need this win badly.

If the head to head is 46-39 then that would suggest this will be our 86th clash and not 88th as suggested. I'm just saying, that's all.

massive clash for two of the biggest rivals in the league. As a mad cats fan i have always hated going to the dome as and remeber the late 90's and early 2000's if you won there it was worth two wins! sat night will be intersting to see how the cats pull up after having a weeks break, they havnt clicked yet this year which has been made hard by the early hectic fixtures limiting training sessions. Adelaide is interesting as well, due to the fact i get to read so much about them through this forum i feel they havnt hit their straps, but they also have had to experience many road games so early. I think the cats will prevail due to that they have won a couple on the road this year and have been close in a couple and the addtion of Kendall who has been able to train this week with the side, I think the cats have two much firepower to pinch it in a close one !

Perth has a significant advantage on paper, but we all know games arent won on paper. as a cats fan, i've allways respected the adelaide 36ers. we've allways had close rivalry between us. i think it'll be to close to call and i wouldnt be suprised if you're mob beats us. good luck anyway.

Not long to go now. i think the cats will try to slow it down and use there bigs. the sixers will try to implement trap defense to disrupt perth from setting up there halfcourt offense. should be a good game.

cats in tottal dominance mode. every player who has seen the court has scored. as i suspected, perth's depth may overwelm the 6ers. however for you guys it seems big red is finally playing to his potential.

Perth wins 104 to 93. brave effort by the 6ers and big red in particular. what a star. 33 and 20 boards. played a mans game. you guys now must build on the second half and start making big red a primary offensive go-to-guy. he is a beast. best of luck from here on to the 6ers.
