Breaking News - Mills Injured

Breaking News....

The hopes of seeing Patty Mills rip up the NBA Summer League alongside Jerryd Bayless have come to a complete halt, with Patty fracturing his foot in the 2nd training session with the summer league team inside the Blazers practice facility.

The Blazers said Friday that Mills fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during practice Thursday night. A timetable for the point guard's return has not been determined.

Mills was scheduled to see a specialist on Friday.

"You never want to see a player get injured, but it is especially heart wrenching to see a young man go down on his first day of camp," Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard said. "We'll do everything we can to help Patty get back on track to realize his NBA future."

This is a serious blow to Mills, as I believe a strong showing at the summer league would have led to a spot in the Blazers 15 man squad.
With only Bayless and Steve Blake as PG's on the roster, Mills had a very good chance of gaining a roster spot.

I hope everything works out for Patty and that he has a speedy recovery...

Its been a ban few weeks for Patty. Still, the guy knows how to fight back from injury. Hope he hangs around long enough to show something.

just really sad. From late 1st round to late 2nd to now not even getting a chance to prove himself. I kinda think his best hope is some team gets him as part of a trade where he more suited goes to d-league and works his way up. Blazers was just a bad fit, Roy is their third pg in a pinch.

Geez Mills is having a rough trot atm. I hope when Pritchard said... "We'll do everything we can to help Patty get back on track to realize his NBA future" ... that he meant the Blazers will help him out with the medical costs of his rehab and give him a chance to make the roster.

Because right now, Mills has no contract and the Blazers aren't obliged to pay for anything as far as I'm aware. Tough situation for him to be in!

It may just work out for him. The world works in mysterious ways. The Blazers now wont be able to use him as trade bait, so he will rehab in Oregon and may come back better than he is now. With the right timing a position could be there for him to grab. The NBA is all about timing many would say! Hope he gets better soon.
