Ben Knight likely out for the season

Very poor luck for the Tigers - what seemed like barely a bump from Pero Cameron (cue jokes) in the Blaze-Tigers game last night has ended in a major injury to Melbourne's journeyman forward Ben Knight. The NBL are reporting that this is likely to see him out for the duration of this season:

Knight's injury occurred during the first quarter of the game as he jumped to get the ball alongside Blaze big man Pero Cameron. On his return to Melbourne on Thursday Knight received specialist advice that he has ruptured his quad tendon in his right knee. He will see the surgeon on Friday to repair the tendon, however it is likely he will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2009/10 NBL season.

Knight said that although it is worse than he originally thought he is staying positive.

"It is a lost opportunity for me, I started last night and was looking forward to a great season, but I am trying to stay positive. It is the first major injury I have had in my career and all I am looking at is just getting back."

Do they persist with the all-Aussie thing, or just get an import and be done with it?

If they want to be anything resembling competitive they need a good import.

Don't think I'd like to get a bump from Pero.

Means - they'll go with an Import sooner.

even worse for Ben is that if he does get fit but Anstey is already back in the team he can not play again anyway due to the rules.

And this in today's Herald-Sun: http://linky.com.au/swhqx

MELBOURNE Tigers may be forced into the import market after a serious injury to big man Ben Knight.

Tigers coach Al Westover is resigned to being without the veteran forward for the rest of the season, perhaps prompting the signing of an American to the all-Australian roster. "We're going to have to talk about it. I don't think we'll be able to do anything before the next game and we've got a busy schedule with four games in 10 days so we might have to get through that and then make a decision."
