Joe Ingles named POTW in Spanish ACB

Just stumbled across this on the BA website...

Boomers guard/forward Joe Ingles has been named the Player of the Week in the Spanish ACB League.

On fire from the start of the game, Ingles, who plays for CB Granada, finished the clash against Jacobean Blu with an outstanding rating of 34 points and was named Player of the Week for the second time this season in the Spanish League.

Joe certainly isnt above NBL standard! Did you watch him play? He was in the NBL as he is in the ACB, an inconsistent but sometimes brilliant player with a very high basketball IQ, but who you wouldnt want to rely on in the tight situation.

Having said that (and you can laugh) I am a big fan of Joe's and it is great to see him having a solid season in a very good league - now if only he could get a bit of mongrel in him (and a right hand) he could be anything in the world of basketball.

Out of interest, his stats:

09 Dragons - 13p @ 45%, 4r, 4a, 1s
10 Granada - 12p @ 43%, 5r, 3a, 2s

Keep up the good work Joe!

Do you have a minutes-per comparison paul? Similar with any stats comparison in the NBL this year, Ingles would presumably have suffered a drop in output because of the 40 minute games in Europe. Makes Ingles' stats in one of the strongest leagues look more impressive.

He would still be an above average player in the NBL, but the only way he would be 'far above NBL standard' would potentially be based on the Euro salary he could command.

Agreed. And good luck to him.

Off the top of my head I think he played about 24 mins per game last year and is playing approx 29 mins per game at Granada.

Of course, ther eare less possessions in ACB games than in the NBL, and if you watch his games youll see Granada run a stagnant offence and Joe doesnt touch the ball nearly as much as he did at the Dragons, and doesnt get as many opportuniites in transition.

Then there is the fact the Dragons were a top team whereas Granada are a lower team etc etc. There are so many factors to consider, but the main one is that Joe is playing well and seems to be improving as the year wears on, which is good for Turkey.
