I think ROTY is a two-horse race with two solid options. Wagstaff is my pick. Sixth Man is tough with a lot of good options. I'd go with Boucher as clear leader for DPOTY, but it might go to one of the Perth guards? And MIP could be one of Chris Goulding, Rhys Martin or Larry Davidson?

Your picks?

ROTY: Wagstaff.
6TH: Agreed, a tough one with a lot of part time starters. I'll say Wagstaff again.
DPOTY: Boucher hands down.
MIP: Rhys Martin just over Goulding.

Obviously I can't just let it slide by that Molitor could be nominated for anything. I'm sure some of the Gold Coast supporters would think the same about Ammar. Nominees should just have been Wagstaff and Coenraad.

They must have REALLY liked that 3 that Molitor hit in the last game.

Davidson for MIP.

How strict is the definition for 6th Man? Does it have to be the first off the bench or is it just best non-starter?

So it isn't a joke that Molitor was nominated?

Not sure if the stats are up to date but the NBL website has Tommy Ammar scoring a grand total of zero points for the season. he could be the dark horse for the ROY and NBL third team.

TC2 - obviously a fair bit of leeway. Basically two per team nominated. Not sure what the point of that is - it isn't primary school where everyone needs to get a participation award. Why not just nominate the top two or three?

Agreed, the number of nominations is farcical and embarrasing. As a fan I'd much rather see 4 nominations per category, that way if you get nominated it's something to be proud off. Molitor and Ammar is beyond ridiculous. Perhaps they could introduce a new award for next season; "fewest minutes played to garner an award nomination".

I think teams are asked to nominate players for the award, but I'm not sure if they are given information about eligibility levels. e.g., the Blaze and 36ers probably figured they should nominate anyone who was technically a rookie.

Were there any rookies not named?

MVP: Corey Williams
-Considered: Adam Ballinger, Shawn Redhage.

Most Improved Player: Larry Davidson
-Considered: Chris Goulding, Anthony Petrie, Damian Martin, Steve Weigh.

ROY: Jesse Wagstaff
-Considered: Timmy Coenraad

Coach of the Year: Gordie McLeod
-Considered: Rob Beveridge

Defensive Player of the Year: Nathan Herbert
-Considered: Dillon Boucher, Rolan Roberts, Damian Martin

I wouldn't call it a one horse race for DPOY. Boucher is certainly a contender but I'd give Herbie, Martin and Rolan all a chance as well.

Can't pick a real 6th man with the way the starters changed every week this year, but I suppose I'll go with Maxey if he counts. He was the best player from that list.

What about Tragardt for MIP. He never used to get on court let alone be a star!

But his brakout year was 07/08 from memory. He didn't improve much from last year.

I agree with the comment on Alex Pledger, when he got over his injury and got healthy and actually got onto the court, he played very well.

I think Pledger will contend for ROTY next year. Tragardh's breakout was in 08/09.

Didn't Trigger win MIP in 08 after the 07/08 season?

Best defensive list is down to three, including Boucher:

Breakers general manager Richard Clarke said Boucher - one of three players shortlisted for this season's defensive player of the year title - would be coming back.

McLeod a run away winner. Grand Finalists, did it on a budget of $700K, Took a team of players that no one wanted, one game from a championship. To Quote Trevor Gleeson. " The best Coaching Performance in the History of the NBL".
