All*NBL teams announced

NBL Press Release
Jason Smith of the three-time champion Sydney Kings is amongst the five players voted to the National Basketball League's (NBL) All-NBL First team for the 2004/05 Philips Championship season.

Smith, who took out the Larry Sengstock Medal as the Most Valuable Player of the 2005 Philips Championship Grand Final series, joined Mark Bradtke (Melbourne Tigers), Darnell Mee (Wollongong Hawks), Brian Wethers (Hunter Pirates) and Chris Burgess (Cairns Taipans) on the All-NBL First Team.

Tigers stalwart Bradtke was the top votegetter in polling of NBL head coaches, assistant coaches and captains, with 82 votes. Mee was second with 75 while Wethers (73), Burgess (71) and Smith (66) rounded out the five.

For Bradtke, it was his tenth selection to the All-NBL First Team, while for Mee and Smith it was their second. Burgess and Wethers both made the team for the first time in their NBL careers.

The All-NBL Second Team consisted of Bobby Brannen (Brisbane Bullets 46 votes), Glen Saville (Wollongong Hawks - 58), John Rillie (Townsville Crocodiles 60), Brett Maher (Adelaide 36ers - 54) and Dusty Rychart (Adelaide 36ers - 49)

You can kiss any of the sixers making MVP if they can't get in the nbl team- i think Maher or Farley over smith

How does Smith make the all star five and not the top 7 candidates for MVP?

Yogee how does the MVP votes work?

Surely if other coaches think that Smith is one of the 2 best guards in the country then he would be in the running for the MVP?

Notice that Farley out-polled Rychart and Brannen (both in the 2nd team) but fell behind other guards.

Kent: the MVP voting works such that head coaches from each team give out 10 points after each game with a maximum of 5 to one player. I'm not sure if there is a restriction on how many can be applied to their own team. It is done after each game whereas I think these All-NBL teams are done retrospectively, allowing the participants to have a wider view in their selections.

Rychart and Farley did well in the MVP vote because only Maher would've taken serious points from them during the season. Cooper would not have been the best in any regular game, nor Forman, and Holmes might've got a couple but no more. Compare that to Sydney where besides Smith, you have Sanford, Kendall, Roberts, Knight, Bruton and even Martin having decent games here and there.
