NBA exhibition match in Australia gaining momentum

with 14 of the top players now contractually committed the exhibition match scheduled for Nov 8th and 9th is looking more promising. Seems like not enough time to get it sorted if you ask me. what are your thoughts?

Id be stunned. Conflicting reports as to how many have really signed. Read on Espn or yahoo it was only two players as recently as this morning. The other issue was, where was the money coming from? Players being paid up to a million each to play, plus the requirement for insurance, 1st class travel, accommodation, venues, and pretty much no time for promotion, how is this going to be financially viable?

Would still love it to happen, but would seem like a miracle at this point.

this is a section of an article about the guy.......

Darden's employers lent him money because he promised to bring in business from a star-studded list that included basketball stars Shaquille O'Neal, musician Nelly, and actors Angela Bassett and Samuel L. Jackson.

Sprewell gave Darden $300,000 to invest and was not repaid.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell I. Haynes Jr., gave the defendant $950,000 to invest in real estate investment trusts (REITs) and lost his money, a list of victims shows. Nelly, meanwhile, sued Darden to get his money back.

Darden never delivered the big-name celebrities, but by duping his employers and the clients he had, he was able to spend like one.

That's Darden Jr. His dad, the main promoter, is a director of Coca Cola Amatil. He has disclosed his son's involvement in the project. Still, I think it's a stretchto get it done in the timeframes, but it depends on how much work has gone on behind the scenes.

Not sureif insurance is an issue - all top players have been willing to play exhibitions to date. Issue is more logistics and promotion/ tv rights deals.

ESPN claims that 14 out of 18 players have signed on, with the rest of the contracts being signed overnight. Allegedly it is set to be announced Monday morning (US time).

Would love to see it happen. Would definitely have to buy flights before the budget airlines found out it was confirmed.
