Knight wins NBL Round 1 POTW

Knight was superb in the Wildcats' 93-72 road victory over the reigning NBL Champions, the New Zealand Breakers, at Auckland’s North Shore Events Centre on Friday night.

The 204cm Tasmanian scored 20 points as well as adding nine rebounds and two assists to lead the Wildcats to a strong victory over the team that denied them the title last April.

Knight made 8-of-14 shots for the match at an accurate 57%, as well as nailing all four of his free throw attempts.
Runners up were Johnson, Tragardh and Saville.
Other leading contenders for Player of the Week in Round One included Stephen Weigh (Adelaide), Darnell Lazare (Sydney), Kevin Lisch (Perth), Cedric Jackson (New Zealand), Jamar Wilson (Cairns), Seth Scott (Melbourne) and Ben Allen (Townsville).

Well deserved.

In other news Grabau will miss the next 2-4 weeks.

"Cairns Taipans veteran Aaron Grabau has been diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament strain and will miss two-to-four weeks"

Why not DB5? 21 points on 8/12 shooting (67%), 5/7 from the three (71%), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, no turnovers and the highest efficiency rating of any player in the game? Plus he played excellent D all game and cut Rush right out of the game. Player of the match for mine.

You should be asking why DJ got a runners up mention in Weigh's place.

It annoys me that 11 players were nominated in the first place. It should only be one player nominated per match.

It's like giving prizes just for participating or lame encouragement awards...

They should do a Team of the Week and from that select a player of the week.

C: Knight
PF: DJ
SF: Sav
SG: Lisch
PG: Jackson

Perhaps a Sith man as well for a great performance but just pushed out.. Lets say Trigger.

Fair call, hadn't analysed the box scores, just going on memory of the game.
I stand corrected. Cheers XY

Would the Sith man use the dark side of the force to mind trick the judges???

Anytime DB5. Just think credit where it is due - particularly where the player has been so maligned.

Weigh's stats last year were not that bad:-
11.4 ppg
4.9 rpg
1.8 apg
39.5 fg%
34.6 3p%
78.8 ft%

You would happily take that from a number of players and say that they had a respectable year.

The only damning stat was the 2.6 topg, which is high for someone who is not a predominant ball carrier. He needs to look after the ball better this year and improve his assist to turnover ratio. His first game is a step in the right direction.

The annoying system the NBL use to show every single performance over 15points does my head in. Just top 3 and be done with it... Good to see a legit effort from DJ and Weigh. Im liking DJ's odds at MVP this season, and this is coming from a true hater of his game in seasons gone. Get on board for a cheeky $10.

I would say the shooting % was pretty ordinary too XY, especially as he took 10 shots and almost five triples per game.
