Pioneers vs Canberra, May 18

Boxscore

Seems like a pretty decent spread of contributors from Mt Gambier last round?

Burdon with 20 and 7 assists
Daly with 18 and 6 assists
Hill with 17 and 10
Allen with 13 and 10
Sutton with 13 points at 67%
Warbout with 10 and 5 in under 20 minutes
Robinson with 11 and 8 in under 25 minutes

Only two not to hit double figures played under 10 minutes.

(For anyone like me who didn't know, Canberra are a 6-7 team, so middle of the ladder at present.)

The Pioneers shot the ball extremely well, and seemed to do as they pleased on offence. It was pretty impressive, Canberra is never an easy place to go and get the win. The team on left Mt Gambier on Saturday morning for the game that night, so a fair amount of travel on game day which makes it even tougher. For anyone interested the entire game can be seen here

from what I understand Canberra steam all their games live.

Canberra is a decent team this year and Mt Gambier played all over them. I've said since their roster started to take shape that they would be a legitimate chance for the title this year and in the south pool I think only Hobart has a starting 5 to match them but Mt Gambier has a deeper bench.

That stadium Canberra are playing in at Belconnen is surely not SEABL standard.

It looks more like the local high school courts - I can't tell if there is an actual stand with seating on the camera side of the court but the fact you see fans standing & watching the game from the other court makes it look substandard.

There is a stand that seats about 500 where the camera sits.

Having said that Mt Gambier stands aren't all that impressive. Thank goodness they have upgraded the function room end and the floor!

I'd say the stadiums that are up to standard are
Geelong
Bendigo
Ballarat
Dandenong
Knox
Hobart

The rest have major issues, either size, facilities, age...

While not all the stadiums are that flash, and there are some with limited seating, Sandringham would have to be towards the top in terms of questionable facilities/situation:
- Show is situated in basketball shed along with 3 others courts.
- Spectators have bench seats along one sideline which are above the court with players change-rooms, umpires rooms & public toilets located in space beneath the seating.
- Team benches are the other side of the court, either side of the score bench with no public seating that side or either ends of the court.
- Team benches and some curtains that go to bench height are all the separate the show court from the other 3 courts.
- That is no problem if the SEABL game is the only match on, but having been there for double header SEABL game (womens & men), when at the same time all 3 other courts were in continual use for social/local basketball, it wasn't good. During the womens game at least twice the court announcer asked whoever in the crowed that was using a whistle to stop using it, before being informed it was actually umpires on the other courts. All throughout both SEABL matches you could hear the umpires whistles & buzzers from other courts which was confusing both teams & unofficials all night.

That isn't up to standard and should not be permitted at this level.

This is a danger game for Pioneers...got to slow Griffin down as if he gets warm it could be a long night as he can score and also bring other into the game like Dowdell, Gynes & SOJ.

They are no push over but if daly contains Griffin they lack bench scoring to take up the slack.

Have you been stuck in a time warp for a week Tiger Watcher? The game was last weekend & Mt Gambier had a huge win.
