Sturt ABL Women - roster reduction

Whats is going on with Sturts ABL Womens side they seemed to be playing less and less players each week. Surely there are a few good Juniors going around that they could be giving a go. Against Centrals on the Weekend they played with 7, why not give a few kids a go and give them some experience.

We would love to see our juniors come up and play, certainly there are some talented kids there who would give our team a run for its money. The problem is, these kids have goals to play college ball and no one wants to see that hindered by playing games that can be misconstrued as 'professional'. This happened to Caroline Nixon a few years back, it was a big head f*** for everyone involved, and almost cost her a chance at college. No one wants to take the risk that it might happen again.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Is ABL considered 'professional' by college systems, even if the player doesn't get paid?

At present, it hurts both the development of that player, and the development of the team who could benefit from them.

The other point I neglected to make is that these kids are currently training overtime for state, sasi, school, whatever else, as well as trying to complete year 11 and 12.

As much as they would embrace playing ABL with older players, I bet there is a little voice inside them wishing for the night off!

I think you will find that because Laura, Angela & Monique play WNBL they are considered professional players & any junior playing ABL with them would be at risk of being ineligible for College.

Had a reason earlier this year to look at this rule, as it could have had an affect on a player. You can find the rules on the website: -

Yes - i wonder where they are going to put all those good u18s and the u21s that are graduating

there are a few - one of the chappels has been suiting for div 3

then they have some good u16s only 2-3 years away from suiting for senior groups as well
