NBA $15 team challenge

Saw this on Gary Ervin's Instagram and thought it was a bit interesting. I'm sure it's been done elsewhere before.

Concept is that you have $15 to spend on picking a team of five players. You can pick one of five players at each position, each with a dollar value. Each player is considered to be in their prime for the purposes of the hypothetical.

PG:
Chris Paul $5
Derrick Rose $4
Rajon Rondo $3
Russell Westbrook $2
Deron Williams $1

SG:
Kobe Bryant $5
Dwyane Wade $4
Paul George $3
James Harden $2
JR Smith $1

SF:
LeBron James $5
Carmelo Anthony $4
Kevin Durant $3
Josh Smith $2
Rudy Gay $1

PF:
Kevin Garnett $5
Tim Duncan $4
Dirk Nowitzki $3
Chris Bosh $2
Amare Stoudemire $1

C:
Dwight Howard $5
Andrew Bynum $4
Roy Hibbert $3
DeMarcus Cousins $2
Brook Lopez $1

FWIW, Ervin's picks were Paul, George, James, Stoudemire and Lopez.

Can't see anyone seriously picking Howard or Bynum at C or Melo in the SF ranks!

If you aren't picking Lebron, you are doing it wrong.

'If you aren't picking Lebron, you are doing it wrong.'

Considering you could get both Durant and either Westbrook or Harden for the same price, I'm not so sure...

I'd go with:

Paul $5
George $3
Durant $3
Stoudermire $1 (prime STAT for $1? Bargain!)
Hibbert $3

Hibbert anchoring the D, Durant and George on the perimeter and CP/Amare pick and rolls? Good luck beating that!

Got to remember that there's only one ball to play with.

-Rondo $3

-George $3

-James $5

-Bosh $2 (he's shit these days, but he was once the best rebounder in the NBA. I don't know what happened to him).

-Cousins (he'll develop into the best centre in the world).

A real passionate, hustle team. An offensive (but most importantly), defensive powerhouse.

I was contemplating whether to go Duncan at PF and Josh Smith at SF.

Ervin is obviously biased; thinking that quality bigmen as well as defense don't matter haha.

Bosh the best rebounder in the NBA?! lol, i just messed my pants with that comment statsh.t stuffer!

I know G. Erv is a NY native, but he cant honestly think that Melo is worth more $$$ than Durant? some botched $$$'s on that list.

I bet you live an ignorant and happy life, Actung.

- Look at Bosh's year by year stats

- Read the terms of the hypothetical

- Provide more context on that Wilt Chamberlain line

You fool.

None of us are right or wrong in a hypothetical scenario like this.

I love Garnett, but Duncan has had a better career than him, so how did he end up more expensive?

Westbrook $2
George $3
Lebron $5
Bosh $2
Hibbert $3

Got outside shooting with George and Lebron, spacing with Bosh, slashing with a few different players and it would be a nightmare to score against this team

Williams
Kobe
Lebron
Stoudimire
Hibbet

In their prime - how does everyone not take Kobe?

"In their prime - how does everyone not take Kobe?"

I thought I read somewhere that Harden was better.

Achtung, I don't think Gary came up with those prices, he was just spreading the challenge.

PG - Deron Williams
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Kevin Durant
PF - Dirk Nowitzki
C - Roy Hibbert

A handy pick and pop game with Williams and Nowitzki. 4 consistent 3 point shooters to space the floor for Durant and Kobe's ISO game and plenty of room in the paint for Dirk and Hibbert to operate.

Durant and Kobe are capable wing defenders and Hibbert at least protects the rim.
