Jawai leaves Galatasaray

28-year old Australian international power forward Nathan Jawai (208-127kg-86, college: Midland CC) is leaving Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul (TBL). In 9 games he averaged 3.2ppg and 1.3rpg this season. Jawai also played 6 games in Euroleague where he had 3.5ppg and 2.2rpg. Jawai's team made it to the Turkish final.

He played there also last season. In two TBL games he had 4.0ppg and 2.0rpg. Jawai also played at Galatasaray earlier that season. He played there also last season. Jawai also played 2 games in Euroleague where he had 11.0ppg and 2.5rpg.

I wonder if after 6 years overseas Jawai might be interested in coming back to the NBL?

Just what Cairns needs, they are a little vulnerable in the 4/5 spot.

He has reportedly decided to leave due to delayed payments combined with a lack of playing time. He is looking for a new team.

Any NBL team would love to have him. When he is fit, he is a beast.

Here's a fan GM question.

Would you disturb what Cairns have at the moment, release a player or maybe 2, and sign Jawai? If so, who do you release? Remember the player point ratings..

I wouldn't release anyone unless Jawai was in shape.

Cairns are well under the player points rating. They could release Mitch Young (3 points) and sign Jawai (9 or 10 points) and still be under. They could even sign him as a Marquee player if they got a sponsor to pay his salary.

Cairns are in a good position and I would make the move as it is probably their best chance to compete for a championship. I would really like to see teams cover the Wilkebin/Jawai pick and roll.

It is hard for the defence to go under a Jawai pick and roll as you end up below the foul line.

I wonder if The Breakers would consider him. And rest Pledger for the season and his turf toe

Mitch Young hasn't really improved much this season but Loughton has also been quite sub-par. But I can't see Cairns management making any mid-season changes ever. If they did they would have turfed the coach last year.
