^ interested to know who is better IYO and to prove your point what have they done at Nationals and who would they replace?

I hope you do know that CoE is about trying identify and develop future Boomers and Opals players.

There may be players that may be currently better, but will they be better in 2 - 10 years, when they may be pushing for an Olympic or world championship spot?

And like all things, especially basketball, we all have opinions on players.

It's almost always the case that athlete/s from outside make it into World Championship teams and athletes at the AIS don't necessarily get a roster spot.

A Centre of Excellence scholarship is not a guarantee of a spot at a World Championships.

It's about numbers, nothing more. If there was more funding there would be 20 in stead of 12 or whatever the actual number of CoE scholarships is. Fact is there could be more athletes there to develop, but there isn't the funds available. It is basketball, not football or cricket.

What about the boy from SA who scored the leading points at Nationals

So anon^, you believe that stats are the only consideration? You are obviously referring to the boy from SAC who averaged 22 points at 49%. Never saw him play, but seems he got plenty of the ball and shot many, many attempts.

Is he a guard, or a forward?
Did he make his team mates better players?
Did he play a team game or was he an individual?
How did he position himself?
What was his movement like, on and off the ball?
What is his potential/ceiling?

Many questions the stats don't answer!

Does he play defence? If he was on a competitive team would be have these numbers?

^ Haha why did everyone start berating the guy who asked about the SA kid who top scored? It just seemed like an innocent question. People really have to chill

You still have to get the 22 points, so he must be doing something right! That in itself is no easy feat regardless of which team he is on. But for him to move on, what position does he play and who are his competitors, who's better? If he's 6'6" or less then he really needs to have guard skills, ball handling, perimeter shooting and penetration. Defense is a given for all players.

After being a long time observer at many Nationals, it is not all about scoring, but it damn well helps. Coaches can work with that.

I have seen many kids fall by the wayside for many reasons, peaking physically early, etc, but if you can't score or score heavily then you're up against it to progress to college, State comps, SEABL, NBL, etc.

Unfortunately that's the way it is.

My question is a prolific shooter or prolific rebounder. Who would everyone prefer?

Rebounder.
Froling is by far our best rebounder.
The others are ok but not great.

We have a few good shooters...
Dj, krebs, w.white, Wilson, adel, mcveigh are all descent.

Anon^#508, who is berating anyone, all I see are more questions, no one is being berated. Maybe you need to read the contesxt of the responses without a negative frame of mind.

Agree with those who are commenting about the statistics somewhat. I see kids with huge stats some times only to read that they jack up massive amounts of 3 pointers or shots from anywhere at a low percentage. They are not great players in any other area, but for whatever reason get huge minutes and rack up big numbers.

Give me a player that has more game than that, and it has nothing to do with the kid from SAC either, know nothing about him just making a comment about basketball statistics in general.

Froling is a very decent talent, no doubt. But any kid his size, with some talent, given his minutes and how much ball he gets and how much his team and coach support him in running plays through him has to manage simailr statistics!

This is not a comment to say he should have done better or he isn't a good player, he obviously can play but seriously if you were there in Ballarat to watch you would see what I mean./
