Jacob Holmes announces his retirement

Many NBL players drift off into retirement without a topic to acknowledge that, which is a shame.

JACOB Holmes is about to become so busy, retiring from life as a fulltime professional basketballer makes considerably more sense than continuing.

It's not as if the 407-NBL games veteran, Adelaide 36ers championship-winner, past Boomer and multiple individual award-winner has anything left to prove on the court.

But there is a huge amount he can do off it to help provide for its growth, wealth and wellbeing and as president of the NBL Players Association, is uniquely positioned to do it, too.

First, the NBLPA is about to disappear, to be replaced by a far more relevant Australian Basketballers Association which not only will look out for the interests of NBL players, but also the WNBL, Opals, Boomers and even those Aussies playing abroad.
Moving basketball forward is elementary for Holmes, who may still be shy but never retiring
Retiring Jacob still on the rise

400+ games is a very solid career. Plus, at ABL level, he was a stat-machine.

It's a shame the NBL doesn't have a farewell like they do in the AFL.

Pretty hard to do that when you have just taken over.

Judging by the number of posts Jacob will drift into retirement with barely any acknowledgment. Shame that there are more comments made bagging players, coaches and teams rather than congratulating a guy who got the best out of himself at a high level for a number of years.

My congratulations to Jacob on a very solid career.

Did remarkably well for a slightly undersized PF without the most consistent jump shot (except that year with the Dragons where he was scorching hot from 3. I seem to recall he was leading the league in 3pt shooting percentage?)

Very amused by his comment to Boti: "Sooo ... am I playing on this year?!"
