Khazzouh to leave the Sydney Kings

The bad news for the Sydney Kings continue with a very strong rumor Julian Khazzouh will not be suiting up for the Kings after this season and instead he will look at offers in europe and 2 nbl teams that have offers him a contract.

Boti have you heard anything?

Not that big a loss I would've thought. Started strongly but once he realised he wasn't going to be getting the ball every time he wanted it his work rate fell away.

No great loss for the Kings, but for Jules' sake I hope he plays for a coach who busts him out of his comfort zone, he's really probably got one last chance to become a really good player.

He still has another year on his deal, if he leaves the Kings it won't be for another NBL team.

Unsure he has a euro out clause though.

To think he once had a try out for the NBA...he was NBL MVP in a season where the league was in a hole. Never thought he was that good a player to warrant any sort of enthusiasm/hype.

Khazzouh has never won an MVP award he game second one year to Gary Ervin. That season he averaged 17.4 & 10 this season 13.8 & 7.5

There are always the rumours that he will return to the Lebanese league, where presumable he qualifies as a local due to his parentage.

I can't see Jules' agent NOT getting a Euro out clause in his contract, I just hoped that this time he'd be back for good... He hasn't been used properly this season (AGAIN!) but I don't think he's been 100% into it all either... It's just a shame that AJ was in the same position in his season with the Kings, but has come back and just worked harder (albeit under a much more qualified coach that he has a much more solid bond with) and Jules hasn't really shown that killer instinct much... Maybe it's just not in him? We really needed it this season though, before he got injured...

I always assumed he didn't have it in him. But still useful if you pair him with the right alternative in the front court.

You guys are crazy Khazzhou has been awesome. His per 36 minute numbers are top notch compared to the other Centers - 2nd in Points per game, 3rd in rebounds and blocks. Plus he shoots three's efficiently, when your center can do that it does wonders for your offense.

Along with Charles Jackson he's probably been the 2nd best center, after Ogilvy.

Hopefully if Khazzouh leaves he stays in the NBL and plays for a better program that will help him reach his potential. It's a shame to see talented players like him and Marcus Thornton probably get a bad impression of the NBL by being on one of the worst run teams.

His hot start to the year was on the back of his three point shooting - he'd come out, knock down his first trey, then take it inside and go to work. That dried up after a couple of rounds and it seemed that when he didn't get those early couple of baskets, he just disappeared from games.

For the amount of money he would cost, I'd be happy to stay with Brandt next year, who may not be as polished but has taken some real strides since Connelly took over.

"Along with Charles Jackson he's probably been the 2nd best center, after Ogilvy."

Yet some posters had Charles Jackson as a bust at the beginning of the year as he found his feet in a new country and league, some even had him as the import to be fired first.
Pledger has been playing pretty well as of late as has Brandt.

Mystro - I have to admit I thought Jackson was horrible after that first game against the 36ers. I should have known it takes time for imports, especially big men, to get comfortable in NBL. He's playing great now, super defender/rim protector. Damn Breakers, they're going to win again this year aren't they?

Perhaps we could see Khazzouh join Bevo @ Illawarra next year to resurrect his career.

They have a hole at PF at the moment so could slide Ogilvy to the 4 and Khazzouh at the 5, with Forman off the bench as a specialist shooter.

He's good at getting numbers, but he's no good at making his team better.

He plays without intensity and is arguably the worst ball-screen defender in the league, meaning teams just have to get him (and Cadee or Thornton) in pick-and-roll situations and they get good looks.

If I was building a team I'd take Jawai, Knight, Petrie, Majok, Jackson, Pledger, Ogilvy, Burston or Kay at centre over Jules. I'd also take Kickert, Johnson and Tragardh despite their defensive issues because they play harder than Khazzouh.

If your centre doesn't defend it's very very hard to win. As I said earlier, I hope he plays under a coach who lights a fire, whether that's in Sydney, another NBL club or OS, because he's a wasted talent at the moment.

DJ has been better than Khazzouh this season. Absolutely no question.
And I'd strongly argue that he's been better than Jackson too.

The problem with DJ is his defence is so bad he has to have big scoring nights to be a positive for his team. I wouldn't sign him unless I had a really good defensive line-up around him.

During his down patch he was such a liability, hopefully he can get that three more consistent after finding his range against Melbourne. When he's hitting the jump shot he changes Adelaide's offence completely.

Defense is primarily a coaching issue isn't it? As most people say, it doesn't really require exceptional talent, just smarts and effort. And you would think those two things are where a coach can have influence. Hence why Khazzouh is wise to move from the Kings to somewhere he can be coached properly. The Kings have had an assembly line of the biggest mug coaches you'll see. Heal, Robbiliard, Cotter and now Connolly.

DJ's defense has been noticeably better this year. Maybe that's just me. He's had a few howlers throughout the season, but for the most part, he's been very good all round this season.

There was a great sledge in the Melbourne v Adelaide game. Johnson was beaten defensively and Joey Wright had given him some instruction, then Chris Goulding came across and said something like, "He can't do it Joey, he just can't."

I find it strange that Khazzouh and Johnson haven't been able to grasp the positional basics of defence. Their lack of power doesn't help, but I would have thought they could get the positioning right.

Oppo teams just exploit situations where Johnson's man set screens - on-ball or off-ball - because he just doesn't seem to be able to defend them. An eight-team league is cruel like that, there's nowhere to hide.

Khazzouh is a shadow of his former life as a Kings player. Maybe take more money O/S and do less.

Hendo - DJ is the worst defensive Center in the league! Khazzhou has been great on defense, what games are you guys watching?

Khazzouh is ridiculously soft, a terrible defender with on-ball screens as previously mentioned, plays with a minimum of effort and is way short of being a franchise center. If this rumor is true, it's addition by subtraction. The Kings are better off without that perennial loser.

You know what was a good sledge? 31points and the W. Remember basketball is about scoring more than the opponent. DJ still gets that done

Some nights yes, some nights no. His great nights are as good as almost anyone in the NBL, but he has to be on not to be a liability to his team.

In fairness to DJ though, he does bring the rebounding almost every night, and he runs the floor hard offensively which is invaluable from a big.

I don't think Goulding should be sledging anyone on d, he's pretty much a witches hat on d

Goulding is the NBL's version of James Harden, amazing offensively but like a matador on defence.
