Nerlens Noel returns to Mavs

Nerlens Noel was a restricted free-agent and after just firing his old agent and signing Lebron's Rich Paul to be his new agent Noel has signed his qualifying offer with the Mavs essentially a 1 year $4.1 million deal. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

However, after seemingly holding out all offseason for an offer from Dallas or an offer sheet from another team we now learn via his former agent that the Mavs offered Noel a 4 year $70 million deal on July 1 that Noel rejected against the advice of his then agent.

One of the more ludicrous things I've heard in NBA contract negotiations what a mistake this guy has made.

Yeah, horrible advice. Best-case he gets roughly around the same that was offered to him this offseason. Worst case - well, injuries/crowded market, etc. More than likely he ends up with less than he turned down.

I understand that it may be satisfying for some to see a story of someone being offered so much, risking it, then come back to be offered much less.

But does anyone think its a little unprofessional of Noel's ex-agent to be airing this information? Doesn't lend himself to confidence from current or future players who may engage his services.

LoveBroker - the ex-agent responded with the truth about the $70mil deal because the new agent and their PR were making it out as if Noel was never offered $70mil via the first agent. So I agree with the ex-agent making it public what really went down, it is his livelihood after all and he did manage to get a big deal for his client who then decided to leave. They tried to spin it as if the first agent was useless which was to cover themselves selfishly.

17.5m per is a decent offer for anyone coming off rookie scale, let alone someone with a history of injuries like Noel does. Hope it doesn't burn him. He has talent but clearly is listening to the wrong people.

Remember him being mad for not getting drafted higher, kind of shows why Now. Thinks he's better than he is. Until he has a full productive season the league has moved to stretch fours which he ain't and not big enough for the five. Good luck to him and probably will get a bigger contract as unrestricted player, but needs to concentrate on court instead of always feeling hard done by.

This is what happens when as the Yanks say you "Back yourself"...are should that finish with "into a corner!"

Wanted big cash no market for him or his skill set in the current CBA environment...don't expect there to be a market next year either based on projections and less teams having space or willing to pay the tax when they aren't competing

Yep. He must have been getting his advice from the people on this board that insisted the market for Cs was gonna be crazy good based on nothing more than the absurd contracts handed out to bigs in 2016.

Nerlens Noel knocks back that 4 year $70M contract from Dallas last year, 12 months later signs with OKC for the minimum.
