Sydney v Perth, Jan 6th

** LIVE on SBS VICELAND **

No thread yet for the strangely-timed clash this afternoon? (5:30pm AEDT)

I doubt this game thread will reach the stratospheric heights of the last Cats game, but hopefully our play goes up a level or else we could be in for our most embarrassing loss of the season/history of the club.

Character test game. If we're legit, we'll bounce back and get this.

Still think they should've upgraded cook jnr, if knight was still there no dramas but we need offence.

Still think they will pull the trigger, great athlete but not what we need a Josh Boone type will be perfect.

I don't disagree. I'm just going to assume that the club are under instructions to give the other teams a chance for a change, and are feeling charitable enough to oblige. Very honourable of them I must say.

Dodgy front court or not, we still should beat the Kings though :p

Randle probably won't commit any offensive fouls without Matt Knight there to take any "special" charges and he likes to have big games against Perth. He needs some mates to jump on board though. Can't see it happening going on current form (the past 2 seasons form that is).

Being under instruction not to make a change is ludicrous.
Any team should have the right to make a change.
Its going to be a Melbourne title IMO.

Homicide, I know you probably can't accept this, but the reason why Sydney couldn't close it out is because..... they were playing against a very good team that wanted to win just as much as the Kings did.

Will Corey ever pay any respect to Perth? There's two teams out there Homicide.

Cooke was solid. Those offensive boards were huge to the outcome of the game.

Was a tough game defensively for the bigs on both teams with refs deciding any contact by them was a foul.

Commentary ripped into him again but went quiet on his impact to the game. I'm happy for him to stick around. McKay wasn't a scorer either but brought rebounds and blocks, something Cooke supplies in spades.

I have also noticed commentary go quiet when Cooke contributes. I think he would be a good import to develop. Not sure if there is an opportunity for that. He needs to develop fundamentals, though he may be a little old for that.

Cooke is a lot stronger than McKay. Neither would provide great perimeter defence. I think McKay's defensive footwork is a little better, though Cooke has improved during his time with Cats. I feel Cooke is a little more mobile, has better balance, has more potential to develop his ball handling.

refs were a disgrace last night. Enough said there.

For the Kings, they are failing in the basics, No blocking out for defensive rebounds, no attacking the ring for offensive rebounds, no switching or blocking the cutter when in D, No looking for inside shots in offense.
I do not understand how Tom Garlep can not get court time. How he has maintained his team 1st attitude i do not know. He is 1st onto the court at T outs and breaks in play to give players their towel and high 5 all players. Great team man and also energenic on the court

Wasn't going to bother but the low scoring piqued my interest. Watched the replay and looked like a decent defensive tussle with both teams struggling a bit with their offensive sets.

As usual Gaze out-coached. The Kings players looked more aggressive on D but the sets are still garbage at times leading to poor rebounding and transition. Farce ultimatum or not, it'd be hard for the players to stay motivated when they know the sets they were running are crap and ineffective.

Strategic-wise, usual mind boggling ineptitude. Certain key opponents in foul trouble and no clue how to effectively exploit that on offense. No isolation, no overloading weak side? Doesn't matter which superstars get recruited with coaching like that.

Shameless, stubborn and misguided. Tarnishing reputation for pride and money. What's going on inside that noggin to think they may have a chance to go on a 13 game winning streak? I said before they'd be lucky to go 8-5, right now they'd be lucky to go .500 in the last 8. Without a new coach, I can't see any sane and capable FAs would want to join the circus.
