Gaze's AFL duties

Gaze is on big $$$ as Kings coach yet he is still employed on Fox AFL channel to talk sh!t on a footy talk panel show. So he isn't a full time coach, has poor results yet earns more than any other cosch in the league. What a farce.

He's full time when the NBL season is on. You are the farce.

Recruiting and planning is done in the off season.

Do you really think he needs to sit by the phone or outside agents' offices for the other 7 months of the year?

You ignored planning. Considering he is the most deficient coach out there and on big money Kings you would assume he is working on improving his craft. But they are a basket case organisation so Gaze is laughing all the way to the bank.

Gaze is still well loved by Australians who remember his heroics at Olympic level, and he just has a likeable goofy persona. He'd be on the AFL panel show as a good guy.

His Dad also played Aussie rules in the Olympics (Melbourne 1956). How many AFL commentators (or players) have an Olympic connection?

JVG picks the team. So why does Gaze need to be there?

@ OP Have you considered that Gaze could just be filling in while NBL finals are on?
Doubt he will stay on Fox Footy for full season.

Well Brisbane's and New Zealand's coaches both missed random weeks in the middle of the season, pretty sure Wright goes back to America in the off season as well.

Cairns and New Zealand don't actually have coaches, so Gaze doing something on the side that would still allow 40+ hours/week if required tops that. Bevo's taken a gig coaching Scotland. Lemanis has the cellar dwelling team and would have a reasonable responsibility with the Boomers.

What is the point you're making? He coaches in Melbourne with the Melbourne Tigers youth. He is still doing leg work with the Kings during the off season with recruiting and scouting. There’s these marvellous inventions called the internet & phone, this allows him to stay in contact with other people who are not in Melbourne.

I’m sure he can do a 1 hour footy show once per week and stay on top of his other stuff. Move on.

Where does Gaze coach in Melbourne? His kids?. Seriously that doesn't count.

It's a good point. He's an NBL coach not an AFL shockjock ala Sam Newman. It's not a good image look. Yes many in AFL mad Melbourne are big afl/nbl fans, but when your a current NBL coach you should be doing just basketball related journalism or media work not AFL stuff. He used to do breakfast radio in Melbourne but he wasn't an NBL coach. He's clearly not on holidays as he's working, so he should be thinking about basketball stuff not afl stuff..

Its obvious that He will coach Essendon in 2020 when they buy the Hawks license and move them to Melbourne. He just doing the ground work for the season after next when he's out of contract with Sydney. Don't anyof you read these threads ???? !!!!

He coaches Big V Youth Champ men, his son plays. Not a huge commitment but say 3 hours twice during the week for practice plus probably 4 hours gameday and a few scouting hours. While not huge you'd probably prefer him spend that 10-15 hours a week scouting new imports and recruits.

They will still go to the USA and not pick anyone they see there. Nothing has changed.

Gazes son is high IQ for his age and a decent shooter, but is rake thin and not an athlete. You won't see him on any espn lists but looks like a guy that if he keeps growing and fills out may progress to higher levels locally. You know the name will give him opportunities to show his worth.

I think it's good that he coaches in Youth League. Going up against other coaches that are far more experienced and successful and have vastly more coaching knowledge will be good for him.

Hell he might even learn on offence of two and also see some good examples of how a real coach conducts themselves on the sideline

Not quite, maybe in some physical aspects but if Mason was like Andrew he'd debut in the NBL next season at 18 and average 30ppg, unfair expectations.

Well that isn't going to happen since the NBL is a lot stronger now play wise.

If Andrew Gaze was an 18 year old today about to debut he'd still average 14-18ppg. Guy was a freak in any era.

So will Gaze's son at least one day be good enough to play SEABL?

Will he be good enough to play Big-V 1st grade one day?

Would he be good enough to make the A-team(and ideally starting 5) at one of those expansive top-private schools in Melbourne or would be be in the B-team or 2nds? Would he make the rep conference side of one of these elite private schools when he was in high school?

Is he a legitimate NBL prospect? Is Anthony Drimic's got more talent than Mason Gaze?

Gaze should've married another athlete. Sounds like his genes didn't get passed through strongly enough. What a shame.

Haha, his son will probably end up 6'7 and thin like him, I'd live with those genes if it were given to me... Maybe he should have partnered up with some random track athlete at the Olympics, his brain mixed with her athletisism, NBA all star right there.

Okay but none has answered where Mason Gaze will end up on the Basketball ladder of talent, I gave lots of examples but was ignored like a smelly fart, or a blue crush slurpee at 7-11

Seabl most probable if he keeps developing, NBL DP at a stretch with the name helping to get there, but NBL DPs are not always better than those not in the NBL who aren't, shitty money for the commitment required.

totally off topic - but

gaze married Melinda Purchase , whose brother Nigel was listed as 6'6"+ so there's some basketball history and height on both sides for Mason,

make him Jack Purchase's Uncle.

seems to be doing well.
