Can they revive the Melbourne Tigers?

"TOMMY Greer's apppintment as General Manager of the NBL's incoming ninth club for its 2019-20 season may indirectly indicate Romie Chaudhari's franchise will be Melbourne-based." Boti

If this is true, can they revive the Melbourne Tigers name?

if they buy the name "the Melbourne Tigers" off the Melbourne United Franchise they can.

That would cause all sorts of confusion for the NBL's social media interns!

Does that mean the new franchise named the melbourne tigers are then the ones that owe Andrew Gaze money (i heard over $1Mil) after he lent it to them to keep them afloat before changing owners and names?

So is that why Gaze is Kings coach? To repay what he was owed? ;)

Also what are the finer details of this loan?

Was told by a senior basketball administrator. They had no reason to make it up.

Gaze had a well-known history of playing well below market price.

I thought the Melbourne tigers were back just playing under the pseudonym of Sydney kings. Most of there team are Melburnian.

Not sure how many times this needs to be explained?
You can't own, buy, or sell a name.
There is nothing to stop a team calling themselves "Melbourne Tigers", and guess what, they DO.

The only thing you can control is trademarks, and United don't own those and never have.

Trademark is with Tigers SEABL or United?

LK owns the IP of the name "Melbourne Tigers", so he would need to give that up.

Technically United is the same franchise as the Melbourne Tigers (they have 5 titles, not 1). So if anything, United should change its name back and the new team call themselves whatever.
