Breakers vs Bullets, 11 Oct 2018

Mika Vukona and the Brisbane Bullets get 18/19 underway against NZ in game 1.

I'm tipping NZ by 7 at home.

I like NZ for 12+ wins for $1.67 at Sportsbet.

Seems like a gimme- they should be $1.40 I reckon, at most.

Let's see if they prove me right by winning first up.

I don't think any team has looked as bad as the Bullets have during the preseason.

If you can think of other similar links and ways for the same sort of function to be useful in other threads, let me know. Maybe a way to link to the news story the topic covers, etc. I can probably incorporate multiple links per story too. It's very rushed right now (5 min feature) but one day I can improve it.

Still very close, Breakers look good on the fast break but the Bullets are winning the hustle game and offensive boards, Breakers coach has already dropped the F bomb twice with a mic on.. lol

What about linking to https://pages.nbl.com.au/tv/ ?

That page seems to always have the game on for free for some reason, and often working when NBL TV is not.

Webster killed Breakers Q2 playing 1 on 5.
Screen and roll defence looks like Pleger still there.
Like Weeks addition.
We look a good team. Shoiuld be OK if we play smart.

Breakers offense just looks horrible. Crowd flat. Not a good start to the season. Shame that the Matrix is in the building for this game!

Abercrombie just can't afford to have these types of games - may need to really pull his minutes back if he is going to give that kind of output.

I know he's a favourite son and all but I never understood giving Abercrombie a new 3 year contract.

I said a few years ago that Wesley really hurts a team on offence - because when he does he post ups from so far out he spends so long dribbling taking the air out of the ball and the offence just stagnates watching him go to work.

Breakers did it a lot with Vukona but the difference was Vukona was a great passer out of it so people still moved/cut/set screens.

NBL refs calling foul from behind again - on Bairstow, whilst the Ref with direct line of sight calls nothing. Pathetic.

LoveBroker - wow. Hadn't seen that. It's constrained to a smaller size but you can get into the dev tools and widen it to full screen pretty easily.

Perfect captain's game from Gliddon.

Anomaly from the Bullets, from the Breakers, or a fair indication of how each team might fare?

Breakers need to tighten up their rebounding.

This was a display in small ball liabilities without the small ball benefits.

Breakers were terrible, they allowed Brisbane to dictate the pace and paid for it.
Far too much iso ball which resulted in turnovers and easy points for the Bullets.
Abercrombie was a passenger at the offensive end not that there was a hell of a lot of ball movement.
The crowd was silent, no courtside guy with a mic getting the fans going?

Only game 1 but if they turn up with those performances it's going to be a very long season.

I wonder whether the move to Spark Arena is creating a different type of supporters - to the Breakers detriment.

When they played at NSEC, they had very loud, vocal support. Had that community support vibe to it and lifelong Breaker fans.

Can't help but think the current fans are more casual observers/people who work in the city and who have decided to come for the entertainment - not so much to support the Breakers as 'their team'.

Just a thought - the atmosphere at Spark has seemed down.

All the Breakers Die-Hard Fans have been emailing the club this morning extremely disappointed with the off court product that was presented last night which they feel massively contributed to the lack of atmosphere.

Main points were.

-The Breakers MC of previous years wasn't retained and was instead replaced with "a screaming woman".
-New Cheeky the Kea Mascot looks like he's been mauled by a cat and was interacting with the crowd much.
-Didn't play the classic "can you feel it" or any of the cool in game sound bites they have in previous years when guys have fouled out or hit 3's at crucial times.

It seems the off court stuff was as bad as the on court stuff

Nice to see a promising start of the season for Brisbane. Bairstow with a solid start to the season, Gliddon was very impressive.

I also loved the fact that the Bullets played the full 40 minutes by calling a timeout with 14 seconds left up 10, running a play to drill a 3 just before the buzzer. [Entering pet peeve territory] None of this dribbling out the clock rubbish as a nonsensical sign of respect. Respecting your opponent is competing hard, playing your best, not gifting the losing team by not playing offense on the last offensive play. An alternative is to substitute in some end of the bench players for some playing time. Or run a play to simulate clutch situations. The game lasts 40 minutes, so compete and use the full 40 minutes. Credit to Lemanis.
