Josh Green headlines Emu’s squad for 2019 FIBA U19 Word Cup

this could be the very first time we see Josh Green in an Australian uniform, and certainly not the last.

No Maker unfortunately...

I'd say

Lee/Wigness
Ducas/Macdonald/Travers
Green/Stattman/Robertson
Bowen/Williamson
Froling/Dalton

Missing out imo

Armstrong
Krause (Reserve)
Bairstow
Buluk
Clarke
Goodrick
Tattersall
Kunen
Leaupepe (Reserve)
Bannan
Hayes brown (Reserve)

I think Wigness will be the only bottom age player selected.

Also they will go more top heavy and Leaupepe or Kunen (or both) will be in team.

Wigness is double bottom age and will be apart of the next u19s too.

So you think Krause(00) over travers(01) and leaupepe(00) over Williamson(01)?

Williamson just is not that good. He has moved to Dandenong now too, for those interested, so he is no longer at Sandringham. But he gets dominated a lot. He is big, and would serve a purpose, but I am not totally sold on him being ready for this team. I do like Travers though. Krause is a big time scorer.

Williamson was one of the best performers for u17 team, but this is a big step up.
Really need makur with the lack of bigs we have.

Does this mean that if the College guys (plus Green) aren't available for the camp, they are also unlikely to play in the actual tournament?

They can still play even though they are not in camp.

Women's squad should be announced shortly too.
We've got a great group but with butler at the helm, not sure we will make top 5 for a second straight item.

Yeah but are they likely to be "available" to play?

I would love to see Green, Stattmann, Froling, Wigness and Travers on the same team!

Again, will the College guys be given permission from their respective coaches, to play at this tournament

As someone who doesn't usually follow or care for the junior level Boomers, I think this is massive and I'll definitely be tuning in to watch them.

Josh Green is obviously a massive in, going to be so much fun seeing him in the Boomers uniform, particularly in a junior setting where he can be featured and show his stuff.

But on top of that, so many young guys that I think have genuine potential - Wigness, Travers, Wani, etc.

I agree on the post above.

They should be the best team we have assembled since the 2014? Emu's that won Silver.

That team had: Humphries, Vasiljevic, White, Wilson, Froling etc

Think we will find it difficult to make it in the top 5. Maybe not even top 8.

We struggle to compete with the USA, Canada, Serbia, France and Lithuania at this level.

The rise is of The african nations too means we will have a very tough tournament.

We didn't in 2014. If Green plays and with our depth, I think we will give it a real shake

2014 was u17s WC. We have done well in u17s. 2 silvers in 5 tournaments.

U19s, when the body fills out, we have sucked. 1 gold, 1 silver in 13 tournaments. Last medal was 2003...

Why announce the squad one week before the U20 National Championships?

Even if you are pretty sure that you have identified all potential players, surely it would be better to wait until after U20s and just see who turns up to play!

Exactly.

Women's team will probably be named after u20 ajcs.

Exactly, I was wondering the logic about announcing it less than a week before u20s Nationals.

Firstly you have guys that haven't been named and have an awesome tournament. I see the coach mentioned that more players could be named.

And then, and probably bigger problem, the guys that are named and have bad tournaments are going to cop some heat.

There are probably 5 or so players named that won't even be in the main rotation of their state team.

We are in group B with Mali, Canada and Latvia.

Tough group, Mali the strongest African nation, canada(2017 champions) and an emerging euro powerhouse in Latvia.

Game starts in an hr.

Sucks that we don't have green or maker.
Bannan has also been very good of late, better than Kunen.
If travers could play better d, then I'm sure he would have gotten close to making the squad.
