The Emerging Boomers thread

With the disappointing finish for the Under 19 team we can turn our attention to the Uni games in Italy.

Our men's team features some good talent in
Blagojevic
Tanner Krebs
Will Magnay
Mudronja
Jack Purchase
Dejan Vasilijevic ( was in 2017 team)
Isaac White and Jack White.

Feel free to post results, thoughts here..

Boys team should do ok. Would like to watch some games.

Also, All the best to tiana and hopefully a quick recovery.
Her diagnosis must have been recent or they would have taken another player.

Mens finish 2nd in their pool losing to Israel but then two massive wins vs Mexico and Czech Republic.

Now they face Argentina in the crossover.

If the beat them , they play the winner of Canada vs Ukraine. Australia played a friendly game against Canada in the Jess up and beat them by 20.

The other pool USA v Germany, Israel vs Latvia.

How is mudronja able to suit up for uni games if he's signed to the 6ers? Is it because the last season he played was for the gaels?

Uni games is for players enrolled in tertiary study, nothing to do with being a pro basketballer.

You have to be under 25 at start of tournament, and doing uni.

If you have to be enrolled, how is Mudronja able to play given he's left St Mary's?

I'd guess for World Uni Games, it's athletes who were enrolled in the preceding semester of study at whatever institution.

It's nice that we've sent an actual team of uni students this time, compared to our past attempts to use it as a national u25 team and just enroll the selected players in basketweaving for 3 weeks before they go so they're eligible.

Emerging boomers get the win against Argentina. Ukraine next for the gold medal game.

Interestingly Argentina had a second round draft pick playing

Why interesting anon? Many countries treat this competition as a stepping stone to senior squads, while some in Australia treat it with disdain. Israel for example have 3 professional players and the team went through a preparation for this tournament. Australia on the other hand started preparing upon arrival, I'd say Australian women and men did us proud considering the preparation. Well done to them all!

Agree Alpha, there is so little mentioned about these UNI teams in any media platforms outside those of hard core hoops that when you mention it people have no clue it even exists.
