Premier League Basketball Coaching

Hi all, correct me if I am wrong but I have been seeing a number of premier league coaching jobs available. The one I was most surprised by was the west womans job. I do not think i am the only one who remembers seeing and reading that sam Woosnam would be back to coach west women in 2020 although they are advertising the job. Does anyone know whos coaching north and Woodville or has there been any player movements as of yet?

Let the guy ask the question, that thread was ages ago so probably didn't see it.
Norwood still to announce as well I believe but that deal was a foregone conclusion.
And true about West, where's the big name of Woosnam?

McGee to Woodville is a strange move. Already have solid bigs there, been terrible for last few years and no real development. Throw in bizarre choice of imports and where does he sit? All sorts of rumours about discontent a west, but they would have been better location, central's as well. All I can see him doing at Woodville is standing in the middle of their zone and Scotty yelling out put up your arms.
And there's been eastern bashing ad nauseum, but what will they have for coming season? Morris was lone standout, but McGee was at least a contributor. Cherry was obviously a budget import, nothing truly outstanding in any area. Might come down to who gets the best import in the south matchup. And God knows what Southern will serve up with no money.
If Dean wanted to show he's not just a chequebook coach, he should put his hand up to go somewhere like eastern. But he'll fade into background and groupies will say tigers demise was because he isn't coaching.

Nothing left at Mavs juniors or seniors
Do you have to have competitive junior div 1 teams in order to have premier league teams?
Or is it a BSA only decision to grant pl licenses?

Mavs non negotiables recruiting policy for Mens PL:
1. Not a club junior
2. Must have been at multiple clubs (the more the better)
3. Cant get a game anywhere even at reserves level
4. Bad attitude or the ability to develop a bad attitude
5. Be more interested in yourself than the team, coach or club
6. Will be made captain if you can have a "toe to toe" argument during a game with your coach

Reply #763870 | Report this post

Brunson how about developing the juniors like every other club does! The current coach has had 4 years to put a strategic plan together. The first couple of years OK but beyond that and you don't move off the bottom then there is something wrong.
His role if I am correct prior to this was junior DO so he probably had beyond the 4 years prior to accepting the role to put things in order and have a clear vision of where the club-team will be.

You are in dream land if you think this is acceptable but in reality NOBODY wants to coach at Mavericks so the club has no alternative.

If there's no one of PL caliber coming through juniors, then he doesn’t have much to serve up on the court. Can’t blame the coach for not having a few talented juniors coming though each year to help bolster the team.

It is a semi pro league. The way to be successful in order is

1. Have the money to buy players
2. Be able to recruit
3. Developer junior talent

Eastern don't have the money to buy players

They will always struggle to recruit due to their location. You also validate this point by saying "in reality NOBODY wants to coach at Mavericks so the club has no alternative."

They have 2 3rds less juniors than other clubs so they are limited in what they can do. Hopefully with a new line up of coaches and new stadium, they can get more players.

Don't they have a boy that was in Aus team or at least trialing to make the Aus team just finish up in 18's.

So the reality is unless they get big money to spend on players then then their chances of progressing from bottom is very small regardless of who is coaching

McGee to Woodville was a smart move by Warriors - a big that's dominate on the boards/blocks and still young and willing to learn. He'll work well with
Stanbridge and Marioana and he doesn't take an import spot either. At least he has a good attitude. He probably should have moved a season or 2 earlier.

Southern men and women are going to be scrambling big time for a decent team next year.

South is just South.

There are a lot of unhappy players out there making their moves - so it will be interesting to see what comes out as teams are solidifying their players early.

So given there are only 4 teams currently you could consider stacked it doesn't make it very difficult to work out it is Forestville!

Norwood - Players after experiencing playing there once move on due to environment

Southern - No money and people moving on

North - Not stacked anymore

So that leaves Forestville

McGee has improved over the years and his stats show that - averaging 15 points per game as well. He's young and the reason why he isn't on the NBL DP list seems like he might have been held back and needed some different coaching style to advance him - maybe his size is an issue too - 6'9" and pretty lean but his flow on the court is pretty good. Playing overseas doesn't mean shit - if you played shit over there. The question is if you were playing overseas - why the hell are you in Adelaide playing Premier League - clear indication that something stinks.

And McGee whilst athletic has the basketball IQ of a snail. Jumps at everything so no wonder gets some blocks, but gives up offensive rebounds and fouls as a result. And shooting range is about 30cms from basket. But no wonder he left, all his feedback from coach was screaming at him when he did something wrong.

Centrals Premier League womens coaching anouncement:

Central Districts Basketball Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Richards to the position of Head Coach of the Women's Premier League.
Sean’s role is to establish the culture necessary for future success by developing the young list he inherits. Sean has a background in Psychology and Education and is a vastly experienced coach having been the JDO at both Norwood and Woodville.
In addition to his Junior Development officer roles, he coached the Girl’s U18/1 teams at Norwood, where he made Classics with successive teams and similarly with Woodville where he coached division one teams across all age groups to U23’s.

Since 2003 Sean has coached Division one teams for several clubs across Adelaide and is the Head Coach for the Adelaide All Stars which tour the United States providing opportunities for young players to display their abilities and achieve their college dreams.
Sean holds level 2 basketball and Netball coaching certificates and has strong links with various sporting associations.
Sean is keen to forge ties with country areas and provide pathways for juniors to access whilst creating an environment where hard work and commitment are social norms and form the basis for the cultural shift needed to attract and retain players who want to achieve their personal best. Sean is under no illusion of the challenges ahead, made greater by the recent retirements of several senior players, but he is excited by the enthusiasm of those players wanting to step up.

The current people and ones just before current people complained that unprecedented success was not based on a "sustainable model" so those that built it said "go for it do it yourselves". Not sure much is being sustained right now out there. Don't get me started re: the boy's program.

Basketball people that get involved with clubs are generally nutcases and apt at creating failure.
