Breakers v Hawks Oct 24

Bottom placed Breakers host 7th placed Illawarra. I can hear the yawn factor, BUT this game will be a beauty.

Breakers have played the Kings twice and Illawarra are a team just wanting to win. It's in NZ so the game starts early Aussie time.

To say that Aaron Brooks had a great game last game is a pretty fair statement. He was unstoppable and topped 31 points. BUT, the rest of the Hawks were not playing as a team. Whether it is the coaching, or whether they just need to bond over a big night on the turps and a BBQ at coaches house, who knows at the moment. All I know was the battle of the Froling boys was won by Prince Harry.

The Breakers put up a fantastic effort against the Kings, but the Bogieman was the difference in both games. Hopson showed form and Webster has not embarrassed himself in his 250th. There will be lots on offer this game. Hopson and Brooks will entertain, and of course Loe will have his handful with the tall timber of Ogilvy and (injured) Boone, both of whom prefer the more physical approach to rebounding.

I love the NZ broadcasts as the Breakers are sponsored by Pek un Save and these guys seem to be playing more as a team. Im tipping those cunning Kiwis to out-play the Hawks who will be feeling the pressure after this game.

Game almost sold out. Well done to Breakers fans.

Breakers by 10+.

The Kings are a great team and the Breakers challenged them in both games. In fact, game two the Breakers should have closed it out after they got up 58-50.

Not sure why they would fixture such a hyped game between the 2 marquee next stars going head to head for the first time... at 5:30 AEDT...on a Thursday.

Surely if they were smart they would give it a later prime time spot on a friday or Saturday. Or make it a Saturday/Sunday arvo game so it's also USA-viewer friendly.

Not that great for NSW/VIC (5:30PM), pretty bad for SA (5PM), bad for QLD (4:30PM), and super shit for WA (2:30PM).

Overall they picked probably the worst possible timeslot to fixture this game imo. Could have pulled some very good viewer numbers with the right time.

Even worse for US eastern time zone - 2:30AM.

US Pacific time not quite as bad, but yeah. This one should have been early Sunday (say 2pm Auckland time) to get into Saturday night prime time on the US west coast. Feels like an opportunity lost.

Anyway, I'm expecting New Zealand to blow out a rudderless Hawks team that can put up some points but can't stop anyone to save themselves. Hopson and Webster will have a field day. Brooks will get his, and Ball and Hampton will each have turns at trying to outdo the other, but the big issue is that Matt Flinn is not a head coach in this league and really has no idea what he's doing - Shamir on the other hand is a quality coach and he'll get this team going soon. Breakers get this very easily.

Matty Flinn needs to pick a 8-9 man rotation and give them minutes to gel. He coaches this team like a high school coach who has to give everyone a run on the court. Where did they get this guy from?

No one at Illawarra can defend. The difference in defence between this team and the kings the other night is unfathomable. There offence is one out, who put this team of geriatrics and babies ain't working.

Matt Flinn has too pronounced of an Australian accent to succeed as a coach. This isn't A Country Practice

Lamelo shouldn't be playing more than spot minutes

If he was any other player he wouldn’t see the floor as he can’t shoot and gives very little.

If the hawks want to win he sits

Some posters here do not understand. LaMelo is playing at Illawarra. This is the perfect team for him as he can basically play all the minutes and take all the shots he wants to.

Even though he is young and raw he is a class above and Illawarra couldn't buy a talent like him.

They need to find a way to get the ball out of Ball's hands more, and get it back in a position where he can attack at the right moment. He is playing high school ball at the moment and it is hurting a team that can't afford to be hurt!

Loved RJ's poise, he didn’t force anything until it was a forgone conclusion.
Brandon Ashley was great until he picked up his 4th and came back on with 5 to go and picked up where he left off.
Majok played a ton after Loe left with a possible skull fracture and showed his worth.
Henry, Hopson, Webster, Weeks and Abercrombie all played excellent and it’s great to finally get a win especially at home in front of a huge crowd.
Fun Breakers team to watch tonight

All the imports are guns, really. Sek definitely the most surprising as I'd never heard of him and he looked like a budget signing, but instead looks solid as hell (literally and figuratively).

Was watching the post game interview with Matt Walsh about the success the club had getting a sellout crowd and then a graphic popped up for NZ viewers that the next Breakers game was airing on SS8 (Sky Sport 8). ROFL - The Ocho, literally.

That's gold. They flood all the prime Sky Sport channels (e.g. Sky Sport 1) with things like women's rugby now - 8am to 2pm today is women's rugby (SS1 has highest viewership numbers because the commercial streams only use SS1 or 2).

I'm convinced it's just PC gone mad e.g. shoving women's sport in our face;

Even though women's sport has the lowest viewership numbers;

Sky sport's days are numbered anyway. Can't wait.

I think the next Breakers game is actually live FTA on Prime anyway;
