Home Game Entertainment

Ahhh isn't it refreshing to see that our season ticket dollars being put to good use for the halftime entertainment. Surely we could see something reasonable at half time! Instead we get to see a group of uneducated yobbo's, half of which clearly spend too much eating instead of practicing a yawn&boring&unco dance routine and who get enjoyment out of heckling opposition teams..... C'mon sixers, we are there to see decent basketball and some respectable entertainment would be nice - Not a group of Mongols who put us fans to shame! I'm sure as fans, we would be escorted out if we behaved in the same manner as those clowns.

On what basis do you call them "uneducated"?

And BTW, your season ticket dollars go to the team, the venue, the staff, etc. Any entertainment is a bit of a bonus.

I can appreciate that not everyone is going to like any entertainment choices (e.g., some people like seeing U12 5 on 5, others don't).

Do you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see? Remember that the budget is minimal, and the timing is pretty crucial (like 7 minutes or whatever it is).

I also agree that the halftime entertainment is rather boring. Give me hot dancing girls anyday. Also I would like to watch a game without music playing the entire game. Fair enough at time-outs, quarter-time and half time, and even the occassional chant of defense, but not entire songs during play. Am I the only one who feels this way?

There was also the shoot out with the Port Power players that seemed to have a great response from the crowd.

The Navy Seals have already got national notariaty as they have been mentioned on the NBL website and published in the national programme.

Something is better than nothing, what do you get at the football?
Some unco kids chasing a ball around.

Would you call that entertainment?

I am sure if more people acted like the seals do the dome would be the most intimadating sporting arena in Australia.

You say you are there to watch a decent game of basketball. I think you would be hard pressed to better the last 2 home games for excitement.

You could go to the soccer and watch no one score for 90 minutes. Maybe that is more your pace.

What if season tickets were raised to $5000 each. Then the sixers could fly in world famous performers to do half time.

Would that make you feel better?

Duff Man, I hate the music too. Back in my day (gee I sound old), it was only played when appropriate. I went to the Tennis Centre (as it was called) many years ago to see SE Magic v Wildcats and it was louder than a rock concert. Crap crap crap - I'm there to see basketball.

Well I reckon the Navy Seals are great spirited and good for a laugh (being 'clowns' is the whole point isn't it?) I appreciate their hopeless dancing. (Better than I could do.) I'd much rather see that than kids making vegemite sandwiches.
The 'hot' girls don't make any noise at all compared with the previous sixer dancers who at least used to try to rev people up from their end. Although their dancing is good, I haven't heard them cheering much at all.
I clap and cheer all game but maybe cos I'm not a kid, I sometimes don't like the music selections (like that horrible one that is on that beer add with the tongue..Yuk...) so I find it difficult to clap to that, but hey, there is other music I DO like. I nearly lost my voice from screaming on Wednesday. It's great! I'm there to watch the game and would rather cheer on the team whatever happens.

Is something like U16 or U18 half court 3-on-3 comps during half time a possibility?

We could have one game at each end. I'm sure there would be enough enthusiastic youngsters around.

navy seals are pathetic - why can't they just support the sixers instead of getting in the faces of opposition teams. get them off the court!

it was interesting to see the zimmer frame and comments they had for dmac, when he scored 13 points, dished off 7 assists and had 3 steals. that's not a bad effort. maybe brad hill should pick up some tips from dmac given his 4 turnovers in under 12 minutes.

53463, I think you'd have some that would find that entertaining and some that would find it boring, as with most ideas. Best bet, IMO, is variety. Try 3-on-3 one week, a competition another, etc.

To be honest, I rarely watch the H/T stuff - usually going to chat with my parents or little Nino.

I posted on OzHoops to get more of an idea as to what other clubs are doing around the league, and only a Tigers fan has responded so far: "I think the Tigers are still doing the traditional little league game that they've been doing for years."

Brad Hill was aggressive all night, and even after two turnovers had the confidence to drop a big three and take it at the rack for a buzzer beater in the third. We should be encouraging this play from our rookies/younger players. That fearless arrogance is something you can't teach. I like his game.

Maybe D-Mac could get some tips from Hill on how not to travel when going for a game winner.

Oh yeah, the Navy Seals rule. They single handedly frustrated Melvin Thomas into a shocker of a game. Keep it up

Congratulations doctor on getting the point of the Navy Seals.

Ask the players about what they think of going to Perth, in particular Reesy. They dread the verbal barrage they get from the Uni Lonnies.

If Rashad had been concentrating on his game instead of taunting the Seals back maybe he would not have made those errors down the stretch.

Exactly like Melvin was taken off his game, all through some guys talking.

It does help the team and ads to the atmosphere.

They are there to distract the opposition off their game.

There was a guy who used to do this in Washington that was so good at psyching out players that even Barkley once took off his shoes and threw them at him.

Read up on the crazzies at Duke to show how much opposotion players are put off their games by the fans.

It is all good.

funny then, how other states seem to provide value for money with quality food, and quality entertainment.

Now saying to increase the season ticket to $5000 is just plain silly, and comparing it to a sport like soccer - Keep it real mate! (Although, im sure even the soccer people can manage something to keep the crowd entertained at half time!)

Getting the crowd involved would be a start....shooting from half court for a car days are gone, but that doesnt stop a half court shot for; say a sixers box at the next game. What about Dunk Competitions amongst the street ballers out there? Celebrity 3 point comps?

If the highlight of the Navy Seals is getting "national notariaty" then woop de do! job successful, now move on and let the sixers get some real entertainment! I think id rather watch young kids having fun, then overweight grown men boring the socks off us whilst they try and achieve social status in an arena because they make little impact to the outside world!!

Captive you want the crowd more involved?

From memory the crowd was invloved at every time out and quarter time break at the last game.

There was either dancers, give aways, crowd members shooting for their AGL bill to be paid or Port Power involved with crowd members.

Makes me think you were not even at the game. Where you?

Would i be correct in saying that if you won the lotto you would complian that you got a cheque instead of cash?

I agree however that our season ticket dollars should not be spent on the Seals. It's a discrace given BASA's financial position.

I'm calling for the figures to be released, along with Bizzy's personal account records ( don't worry Bizz, the Crazy Horse appears on the statement as a 'restaurant')

This will show that the Navy Seals are being paid slighty more than Belly and Rick are for running the Academy. :)

News flash

BASA to charge by the kilo:

When you take into account the square metres in seating that the seals take up as opposed to the average ticket holder indeed the seals should be paying extra to attend sixers games as they indeed take up more space than others.

From here on in all punters will be weighed and measured and charged accordingly.

This will see BASA's financial plight saved as the sixers will only attrract the kind of people that shop at Large and Lovely stores.

I like the Seals - hope they get a new song this week .. There might be room for a "hey hey hey .. its fat albert" music selection too .

-- The Power boys were lame i thought .. they did not really get into it and if i did not know Brett Ebert ,i would not have been able to tell where the hell they were from.

AGL shoot-out is a good idea .. but that lady had the arm strength of a 3 yr old ... c'mon crew pick someone who is gonna have a chance ;) Or is AGL a bit cash strapped ?

What about an ABA shoot-out? 3 point line - eg Sullivan v Watson or Kossy v Phillips - let each team nominate a shooter and go from there. Get some of those ball racks and time the guys like they do in the All-star weekends.

I agree with the Doctor - what's a little nipple between friends after 9pm on free to air ?

I have been a season ticket holder for many years now and i think the new marketing team has the opportunity to bring back the "vibe' that we had in the early 90's - try some things hit or miss it will shut people up if you change it up.

Thought the seals were a great change but like everything else its all about variety at least they get involved and just don't whinge about it without proposing a solution.

I also admit I do miss Murray though.

My only complaint is we keep playing "thank god its a country boy" I know Adelaide is a small hic town but lets move on!

With the big screen, there does not need to be any on court entertainment. Why can't the screen be used at half time with entertaining features. On Wednesday night, with Fox telecasting the game, at half time they did interviews with Andrew Gaze and others, they also showed highlights of the game. The only problem is that you could not hear it. I thought to myself I would rather be watching and listening to whats on the screen rather than what was happening on the court. I know the screen is a new addition this season, but it could be used a lot more. All your entertainment could be centred around the screen. Apart from that, our season ticket buys us basketball games. After the last 2 games in particular it beats me as to how anyone could even complain about the entertainment. Nothing else mattered.

3 point shoot out. simple as that. run it as a competition throughout the year.

failing that have a halfway shot for some cash or something, find a sponsor to put something up.

you wont go wrong if you involve basketball, its not rocket science and its simple.

There has definitely been an improvement in the home game entertainment and its good to see some initiative being shown in trying out some new concepts.

The Navy Seals have been a great addition and long overdue when considering Perth's Uni Loonies, the Razorback's former Dwight stand, etc.

I'm completely with EC on this one though. How could any genuine 36er fan come home from watching two last second, come from behind wins and post in such a negative fashion about the game night entertainment?

It is human nature for fans to post on this forum after a disappointing loss and have a whinge about the food, the entertainment, the refs, Smyth, certain player's performance but it is pretty surprising after two such exciting games.

Why is there so much emphasis (especially in Adelaide) on entertainment outside of the game itself?

I always thought the people that were there, had come along to see the game and not a 8 minute show at half time?!

K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid
Some competitions to keep the kids/fans happy during qtr time breaks should be enough! Halftime let the youngsters have their moment of glory on the court and play a little ball, ok this can be boring week in week out so mix it up everynow and than, but I don't think there needs to be this HUGE half time show! For finals sure bring it on, but this is regular season.

as a current season ticket holder i don't see any problems with the entertainment that is being provided.
sure i may only be a 16 yr old but i still think that it is good to see that the Sixers are getting fan involvement into their home games.
lots of people go to a game to watch the game....not to go and find things in the entertainment to complain about.

the Navy Seals are doing a good job and i enjoy seeing them at each home game, not only because they provide some good entertainment but because they seem to get reactions from the crowd when they begin to rip into the opposition players.

keep up the good work guys!!!

hey Isaac for some halftime entertainment why not use the theory behind the AGL shooout and pick some people from the crowd at quarter time to have like a mini 5 on 5 game or something.... its got all the things needed... crowd involvement, entertainment and its some thing new!!

keep up the good work

half time entertainment, why not have a good old fashioned "horse" or the like dunk out of the best high flyers in the A.B.A. I am sure the challange of completing or bettering the previous dunk of the oppision is sure to please the 6ers crowd, espically when the elite of the A.B.A dunkers can out do Oscar and Coops at their own game. Best throw down from each team verses the rest simple, I'd be in for sure. Match the two handed backboarded tap before furious shak like pillage on the rim. Now thats entertainment!

What's that saying- "Damned if you do and damned if you don't"?
Sure the Seals aren't hilarious, but it gives you something to watch after getting a coldie or food at half time.
It was only a few weeks ago that this site was inundated with Doom & Gllom about how weak the 36ers were going to be and there was no value for money.
Now that the 36ers are performing and people are attempting some 'cheap' entertainment, we focus our attack on that.
Keep trying , but you will never please 100% of the people

The reason everyones on about the half time entertainment is that the team is winning so they cant bag the team. An 5365 found brad hills t/o's
forgot to mention 8 points in 3.30 prior to 3/4 time that got the team back in the game, rookie mistakes sure but is the glass half full or half empty. Effort to improve entertainment and presentation is being noticed by most, team is on top of the ladder basketball in Adelaide is on the move, get onboard and enjoy the ride - but be sure to support the team when it needs you most- there will be hicups.

(Mod: Also make sure that everyone spreads the word. Why keep all the fun to ourselves?)

Hi all
I am one of the Navy Seals. I firstly must say that I fully understand no matter what you do you will never please everyone and so knockers are to be expected, however I don't believe people need to get so personal with it.
Firstly to say the we are all uneducated, what qualifies you to make such a comment? I finished High School, Got a tertiary education and then traveled the world for three years and now have a very nicely paid job, wife and house.
Next to say that the sixers are pumping dollars into us, that is funny! We don't get a penny! In fact if anything, it costs me more money with traveling from across the other side of town for our get togethers to work out what we are planning to do, purchasing little props and I could be working most weekends instead and be getting overtime instead. I aunt complaining though, I love every second of it!
Now the D-Mac comment with the walking frame/ wheelchair. We love D-Mac. That was just a little fun. Lets face it, to still be playing like he does at 41 is remarkable. We spoke to him after the game and he found it quite funny. He even signed the "D-Mac Stand" sign that bizzy was holding. Rarely was he taunted throughout the game because we know being the champion that he is, it would be useless on him. Tucker on the other hand was a different story. Like "Melvin" the week before we know if we target the right player they will fall into the trap. Tucker didn't fall from grace as much as Thomas did the week before but he certainly wasn't happy with the attention.

Basically, we all have day jobs that we have to work around and we are not doing this for ourselves and for some sort of social status. We just want to see the Sixers be successful and are happy to play our part towards that.

Hope to see you at the next game!

Go Sixers!

PS. We are still looking for a few more seals if anyone is interested?

To be honest I bashed the Navy Seals after the first game and while I maintain that they shouldn't be out on the court at halftime they HAVE added something positive to the games this year. The couch is a great idea, and they definitely got into Melvin Thomas' head (though there is plenty of room in there).

As far as halftime entertainment, I go to the Sixers games expecting to see a BASKETBALL game, and I personally don't care what is on centre court for the 7-8 minutes between team's leaving for the locker room to when they return to warm up. I don't think that the club HAS to offer up ANYTHING in that time, and I think that it's good that they are doing something. So, if you are looking for something to do, go and buy a hotdog, or take a dump, or talk with friends for that time.

To be honest I never thought for one second that this group of men on the floor at half time were paid by the 36ers to be entertainment. They were doing that New Zealand dance and some of them didn't even know the moves. However I saw them for who they should be seen as, hardcore 36er fans. And to be quite frank we need more of them. Adelaide used to be known as the best state for loud spectators and yet the last game I went to the crowd, despite the size, were very quiet.
I say Go The Seals and maybe they just might inspire the 36er Girls and all the spectators to do a bit of cheering too.
