Taipans v Breakers Jan 9

Two of the hottest teams at the moment battle it out in Cairns. The Breakers are on a 5-0 run and the Taipans are 4 and 1 from their last 5 games.

A win to the Taipans would see them jump into 3rd spot over United and then a Breakers win would see them slip into 5th. I can see and OT game coming up...

Cairns are playing some nice ball at the moment and at home in front of great crowds are 8 and 3. Breakers at one stage had no road wins, they now have 4 after someone decided to flick the switch in the back of the players brains to on. Both teams have a not too dissimilar style, but Cairns have got the momentum and are focussed on maintaining top 4. Don't worry New Zealand, at least you'll get a hug from Jacinda when you get off the plane back home

Cairns by 3.

"Sek Henry news?"

Quoted as saying, "I'm more than Likely, I'm a warrior".

Calf injuries are tough so will be interesting to see if he does suit up.

I feel the Breakers match up favourably. But while they've been on a roll recently, Cairns has being building serious momentum on the back of good squad balance, chemistry and teamplay. Cairns by < 5, but if it's close with less than 5 to go the Breakers could get the upset.

Tough game to tip, could go either way with both teams play great of late.
Happy to just sit back and watch it play out.

Sek Henry not playing tonight. Cairns will win this. Feel sorry for Breakers, so many injuries this year.

Breakers up by 5 on the back of Jarred Weeks & Rob Loe.
Ashley starts but picks up his standard 2x quick fouls.
Already like 4 blocks in the first quarter, Cam Oliver with a decent one on Delaney and Abercrombie got Oliver back.

If Breakers take care of the ball they win this easily.

If Taipans shoot the three better they win this easily.

What team will turn up in the fourth quarter?

Low scoring affair with neither team shooting well from outside the arc with the exception of Djeric and Loe hitting a couple each.
Abercrombie & Delaney struggling to carry over their form from SE Melbourne and uncharacteristically Hopson has almost has as many turnovers as points.
All tied up heading into the 4th

NBL. Who can pick a winning team? Is it a close competition or is it just all teams are average.

What a slow game, no heart in this one. Cairns deserve to lose.

I have to admit I was completely wrong about Abercrombie. All season I thought he was basically done and almost hoodwinking the Breakers into throwing contract extensions at him but since Hopson came back and their lineup became settled he's really stepped up now and been a big part of the reason for their win streak.

It's because teams cannot manage leads as the playing style of the league is so unstructured and free wheeling. Good for entertainment purposes.

Hampton was doing great, NZ lead by 7 and they brought on Weeks and it was good night NZ. Why, who knows.

Maybe there is a hidden minutes restriction we aren't aware of with Hampton? Man he looks like Dante exum, and has that bambi playing style just a touch bit more in control.

Newbill was great in slowing down Hopson.

The Breakers really missed Henry as a reliable scoring punch. Hopson was gassed by the 4th especially with Newbill making him work for every catch.

Machado the real MVP.

Newbill's D won Cairns that game, completely kept Hopson out of it. Hopson stepping out of bounds with ball really summed up his night.
NZ really missed Henry’s defense and scoring but credit to the Taipans on the victory.
Oliver was great early and then started trying to be the hero and it didn’t work out for him. He got blocked 3/4 times the best being Delaney’s to stop the dunk.

Newbill was class. A shame the breakers didn't keep him. Our import guards since haven't been anywhere as good as him. Also he can play multiple positions.

Still think it poor coaching in the fourth from shamir. As another poster mentioned perhaps there is a minute restriction on Hampton.

Also getting a break in the fourth for hopson, if he was out of gas like some have said.

Hopson had to work hard for every catch, I'm not surprised he was gassed.
I was tired just watching him.
NZ really missed Sek Henry's defense and scoring punch where as the Taipans shared the load between Oliver, Newbill & Machado.
Newbill looks a lock for DPOY.

Was sweating a bit on that +6.5 line for a while there.

Homicide going on about Hopson's turnovers, last person to have 10 turnovers in a game was Homicide...twice! Lol.
