Best five-man team for each NBL club

Out of off-season (and worse) desperation, list away the best all-time five man squad for your club. You can pick based on pure single-season talent or overall club contribution as you wish though aim to measure based on their talent at the time of their playing there.

Adelaide - "Fluro 5"

Brett Maher
Darryl Pearce
Peter Ali
Mark Davis
Mark Bradtke

Basically all the 80's Sixers. Davis and Maher auto picks but Maher not especially a PG. Darryl Pearce for his shooting. Peter Ali was a great performer, and of course I don't think the Sixers saw the best of old mate Bradtke

The Fluro 5 - 80's combo

Adelaide - Import Scream Team

If I put up the 5 worst Sixers players Isaac would get the lawyers letters, however, that team would probably be coached by Marty Clarke.

A few imports to choose from here who have been unable to deliver on the goods. I would have been happy to use Chris Fuss's money to send them home.

PERTH
If you go with overall contribution, the team picks itself:

Grace
Stewart
Redhage
Vlahov
Crawford

You could easily make a case for Torrance and Fisher, and its scary that's basically the 90's team right there.

Picking "Best Ever" is much tougher:
Martin
Cotton
Ennis
Kay
Clausen

There's no way a Perth team can include Nick Kay, whom I love as a player. There’s Crawford, Vlahov and Fisher in front of him.

36ers
Mee
Maher
Rose
Davis
DJ (longetivity)

The centre spot troubles me. DJ has been great in an ordinary era. Rees is my fave, and floored Goorijan, Bradtke is the best ever player we had at centre but we didn’t get the best of him.

I’d love to put Cattalini, Darryl Pearce and Al green in there.Cat was a beast. Al was a machine and Ice was one of the greatest shooters I’ve ever seen.

Stewart picks himself over Cotton?
You know Cotton has already scored more career points than Stewart right?
Maybe you're considering both sides of the ball and picking Stewart for his elite defence lol
I would pick Peter Crawford ahead of Stewart too. Maybe Harvey and Lisch as well for that matter. A lot way from automatic that's for sure.

A quick count showed near 20 names throughout the Perth teams. They spanned near 30 years of NBL.

So many of those players are All Star 5's for the league, when they played.

Same goes for other line-ups, all have some greats, and other teams still to post, but no-one has a 30 year spread of greats like Perth. No wonder Perth has such an amazing record of finals.

Tigers and United- since United was the continuation of the same license and the same club, albeit with a name change

1st team:

Anstey
Simmons
Thomas
Copeland
Gaze

2nd team:

Bradtke
Timmons
Barlow
Goulding
Ware

3rd team:

Boone
Hoare
Tucker
Corletto
D-Mac

4th team:

Stiff
Worthington
Giddey
Gordon
Tomlinson

5th team:

Kickert
Walker
Lampley
Ere
Crosswell

That's in 5 mins off top of head.... may have missed someone. Saw a few games in the 90s, way too young to remember the 80s

Tigers and United are not the same club. You can't start afresh because a majority of local supporters hate you, but then pick and choose some parts of your history to bring along.

[Tigers and United are not the same club.]

Yes, they are.

"Melbourne United is an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. United compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home game at Melbourne Arena.

The team made their debut in the NBL in 1984 as the Melbourne Tigers, as an extension of the Melbourne Basketball Association (MBA)."

"On 20 May 2014, the franchise was re-branded as Melbourne United.[14]"

Yes they can.

Have a look at the United rafters, they have Tiger Singlets and Tiger banners.

Any team with Martin in it is not "best ever"

It's a quirky selection I'll admit, but go back and watch the 2016 finals. And I'd argue that wasn't even his best.
That's the quirky thing when you say "best ever". We didn't often see the best of Martin offensively, but when we did get both he was incredible.

There's no way a Perth team can include Nick Kay, whom I love as a player. There's Crawford, Vlahov and Fisher in front of him.

Sigh, which is why I named those players, based on overall performance. But at his best, Kay is better.
That said, JC is an interesting option. Obviously I have based my selections on position, and his lack of range generally tags him as Centre, but a case could be made to select him at PF.

Stewart picks himself over Cotton?
I would pick Peter Crawford ahead of Stewart too. Maybe Harvey and Lisch as well

Cotton is the best ever in that position.
And yes, for overall contribution he already comes close, ask me again in a year or two

Difficult decision between Fisher or Vlahov so go with Fisher because of his two league MVP wins.

So this question is just out of curiosity but Adelaide only have 2 league MVP's and yet only one is selected for the team?

Firstly I agree that Kay isn't a better Wildcat than Fisher, Vlahov and Crawford but he is already better than Redhage and Ronaldson and I think he'd be equal and about to pass Rogers too.

I'd have to find a spot somewhere for Marcus Timmons, I liked him at Hawks and loved him as a Wildcat and he was still quality as a Tiger... very underrated NBL career.

Secondly the team I'm most intrigued by is Brisbane, their 1,2,3 would be absolutely phenomenal as you pick between Rucker, Heal, Bruton, Bruton, Woodberry, McLain, Loggins, Patterson, McKinnon and Ere. Every single player was worth the price of admission for sure. I'm sure I've forgotten some too. Their bigs would be interesting too, would anyone include Marshmallow man Daniel Kickert in this squad?, he played really well for the Bullets on average teams.

As for Sydney would everyone take Jason Smith over Damien Keogh and Ben Madgen? Childress deserves a mention too as he done everything in a Kings jersey.

LV - Henare & Bruton's jerseys hang from the rafters for good reason. It was tough to leave Cedric out with the success he bought but he also left NZ for more money in Melbourne where as the other 2x retired as Breakers.

Jason Smith for the kings was a premiership captain, far better than Keogh ( well overrated ) or Madgen who was allowed to shoot every shot under Heal. Yes Childress was excellent on very poor teams.
