Looked like Pearlman was coaching the team on the news footage about Bairstow tonight. That's weird because Boti implied he was going with Henry.

Doesn't JVG take credit for coaching the team ..... except when it’s losing

Maybe Sixers couldn't afford paying out another coach so kept Pearlman.
Half joking about that, but if they said to CJ that he can't hire his own staff and he's said ok, it's safe to say rumours of a yes man are true.

There is an opportunity for CJ to get top position, sometimes you got take what's available and make it work. Hopefully him and Pearlman can work together. Sixers probably spending more money on coaches not working for them than working for them.

Seems Bruton was here, yesterday, coaching 36ers training at Findon.

Word on the street is it's not just staff that don’t like the new CEO. Apparently has gotten offside with Brett and Scott over the way they have been (or rather have not been) working together on the camps.

West Adelaide co-coaching coordinator. Coaching their 16 girls this year. Has previously coached at woodville and southern. State assistant also.

I assume he's available and cheap. Like Petty.

Cheap and available means he is a volunteer and he approached them. Most entry level positions are voluntary

Yes it's a freebie. It hurts when you are paying existing coaches not coaching a bundle. JVG you have done it again.

That's the issue really, they're not. Not at all. Sixers should be approaching the best rather than taking whatever walks in the door.

Think great opportunity here for skill development. Great way for local flavour and getting a grass root connection.. shouldn't be closed shop... complain not giving local players opportunities well maybe coaches at local level will begin that process... nothing wrong with seeking next level... both Jamie and Nigel are well respected and eager to absorb and grow the game . Fortune favours those who strive

So respected you got the wrong person.

And Jamie has zero respect post NBL1 2021.

Did the Sixers even advertise for the roles Petty and Jimmy are doing?

The reality is the NBL train during normal work hours for people. So entry level positions for coaches generally go to people with flexible schedules, no family commitments, and people willing to do all the little tasks just to get a foot in the door.
It's not for everyone

Reply #875998 | Report this post

Correct. But they still didn't advertise.

People are interested in these roles, weird they just picked a couple of guys. One at that who has drastically under performed at multiple roles.

Plenty of local guys who have move runs on the board would jump at an opportunity to get their foot in the door.

Once again weird they didn't advertise or cast a wider net.

Again, it's nothing to do with being the best
Most of the best coaches getting around are too busy to take on a volunteer role like this.
You end up getting whoever has the time, hence these appointments.

Also Anon...wtf are you talking about? Nigel?

Maybe they did or word of mouth .. still important stepping stone and has to benefit local basketball.. to see gateways exist.. I commend club for going local...

Lies, lies and more lies.

As posted many more credentialed people, who were never approached.

Maybe you think asking 5 or 6 nobodies is casting the net wide. It aint.

They wanted plebs and got them. (Petty being involved in anything coaching related in 2022 is embarassing.) When instead they could have approached actual up and coming coaches.

Spoelstra neither of these guys will be. Yet a professional Club would be looking for local guys with that level of potential. (relatively speaking)

As I said earlier I know of one very credentialed coach who was approached. For family reasons he declined.

without naming them we have no reason to either believe you or believe they are very credentialed.

Also there's a balance between being credentialed and being suitable. No point approaching Phil Smyth for the role for example and then saying well we tried.

The gig paid no dollars, some good coaches were approached but declined due to it being a freebie.

Truth

I don't get the anger.

No NBL club is going to have 4 paid coaches. There just isn't the money. At best clubs will have a head coach and one good assistant.
These are basically just volunteer roles, where the coaches sit on the side, watch and learn. At most their contribution will be to rebounding at training. They will have zero influence on what the team actually does. And that's fine, they shouldn't.

I can't comment on Petty, but Jimmy is the exact type of person who should be in this role. He's a younger coach, who has shown a real interest in developing his craft. He's a JDO, he is involved in state programs and wants to learn. Pretty much ideal.

Sure there are other coaches out there, but as some have said, they work or won't be interested in doing it for nothing. There might be some who think they could do it, but are they involved in the other extras?

Just seems like people getting worked up for no reason.

In Joey's day they had 2 paid assistants, kb and Tracey, then kb and Golley. Assuming having to pay out previous coaches, financially it's come down to one.
As said before (Alexander) at least has potential, no matter how people feel about him. Bringing in Petty is an embarrassment based on what he's done. Is he still with SA Country? If so it sounds like he's robbing them even more to play pretend coach again.
Even if the jobs don't pay any money, at least advertise. No way is it a full time role, some candidates may have looked at reducing their work hours for the opportunity, or even had a gap year.
I am hating the organisation, if you can even put organised in the sentence, more with each coming day and announcement.

And if Nigel Alexander had got a run, that would be cherry. He's somehow resurfaced at Centrals as their 16 1s boys coach.

Good on both the guys. Huge professional development opportunity.. if doing for free then everyone applauded them.. or chip in some dollars and hire someone yourself.

Jimmy has been bugging them for a long time for this kind of thing. Looks like they caved and gave him a gig. Good luck to the guy, but I am certain he will not be making any game changing decisions ha. As a fan I have no concern about some random guy/s volunteering to help out.

Wonder if some of the more successful NBL1 coaches were asked? Seems like there might be others more qualified is all.

Good luck to them though, at least one is. Promising young coach. The other had 3 years and seemingly got worse.

Great way to build country connection with the suxers. Sure both coaches will be able to use this learning curve to great benefit..no one expect these guys to be HC mentors do they. But how wonderful will the flow on effect be to countless juniors when these guys share insights.. more positives for sixers. It's the new normal...get use to progressive change ...
