Kings @ Jackjumpers - Fri 4th Feb

Jacks surprisingly up at the half.

No idea who that third commentator is.

On another note Mikyle McIntosh may be one of the worst imports this league has ever seen. I have no idea how he's conned his way into getting a contract with Tassie.

Imagine if the Jacks had a somewhat serviceable third import. McIntosh would be out of place as an import on a D3 Big V team.

Is Plumlee still on the Gold Coast? Pull him out of retirement for a couple months. Couldn't be any worse.

Kings led by9 at quarter time, I thought it be 50 point win but Sydney don't play defence. I’m actually starting to see how Roth can coach, Magnay very impressive, McVeigh, Kenyon doing good things and their two guard imports now playing well. Free throws count 33 to Sydney and 14 to JJs, how Sydney lose is beyond me.
Martin and Cooks can have doubles every week but they can’t defend as a team, there help out D is woeful. Kings coach is fine at ripping into the refs but he certainly is no Weaver. Sydney season not over and the pay roll is probably double of Tasmania but they certainly don’t look balanced.

I'm a pro Stewart, I’ll admit that Roth is doing fine, that doesn’t mean that Stewart would not have done well. I believe that Stewart had shown enough to have the job with the bonus he’s Tasmanian. Congratulations to JJs they are showing more than I thought possible with that squad, season not over though.

I believe Stewy should be there, basketball in Tasmania is in a great position need facilities and courts, support for coaches and refs and we are off and running. That takes work though

Season has been very impressive by the JJ's yep not over but damn with their list they have done well.

Matt Kenyon,Jack Mcveigh, Magette and Adams come on down. If they had a strong 3rd import watch out. First season in the NBL they deserve respect.

Yep more of the season to come but a lot to look forward to.

Respect to Roth

"Tassie now in 5th place. What a cupcake league lol."
Indeed. JJ's have beaten Brisbane in their first home game, expected. Breakers bottom of the ladder twice, Adelaide 2nd bottom, and the Hapless Kings, yet now in the top 6.
What a piss weak league it is. Cairns won't win another game, Kings should lose to the Breakers and so it goes. JJ's on the road. That will test them. As a Kings supporter they are shithouse. Have done sfa since they returned. Very very disappointed in their effort tonight. Buford why was he selected?. Hell Stewie would have picked a better side ;) Where was the Russian again tonight? DNP.
Perry DNP, Steindl was there but MIA. McIntosh woeful yet again. Kenyon who? Bairstow DNP. McDaniel isn't an offensive player. Weeks Pffft. McVeigh turned up tonight and collectively 4 JJ's players scored 63 points of the JJ's 77.
That's how bad the Kings are. Can't blame JVG for this loss.
The most disappointing thing for me is that Roth could have selected such a better side. 1 dud import and one dud NS. Oh and the other duds. Many on long term contracts. The JJ's need to play some top teams and they haven't yet.

You can add Pondgrass to Smith, Heal and Buford, he put this team together, really has no idea. JVG to Pondgrass, oh yeh.

Maybe so salty anons - JJ's do not have the strongest list and believe they will not make the playoffs (happy to be proven wrong) but damn I'm impressed with how they are playing. There will be plenty of chances for the anons to vent at the first-year team.

They play hard and that is deserving of respect.

Exactly BB has built a foundation in the first year.

If they can pick up one or two wins on the upcoming road trip would be impressive.

Massive win last night -more scoring power on the Kings no doubt JJ's played hard and smart.

I like what the vJJ's are doing.

They play with effort and heart, something the Sixers don't do as often.

I would be happy if they made the playoffs and make some noise, that would be a good happy story to this season of bad news.

But we need to pump the brakes on playoff and COTY talk.

This team is God awful and that is their limit not their effort not their want to win.

The 2 Josh's would be lucky to be a 3rd string import on any other team.

MacIntosh doesn't belong in the NBL.

As an inidcation of how crap they are they actually run a low post play for Fabian Krslovic, seeing him operate in the low post actually has me cringing and I am a player with zero low post skills.

? - would you rather Josh Magette or Dusty Hannahs as your import?

Reply #884090 | Report this post

Lovebroker
Two years ago

That is a very good question.

I think I would prefer to keep Dusty.

That is not necessarily an endorsement of Dusty.

Both score roughly the same and both poorly from outside.

Josh plays more minutes and is expected to create and facilitate offence.

Josh is a better defender, and passer.

The only reason I chose Dusty was because of the role each plays. The Sixers do not need a dedicated PG we have 4K McCarron. Dusty's role is to shoot and score, something he is barely passing.

You swap them and it would be detrimental for both teams.

This is not to say Dusty is a better basketball player. In fact it is an indictment on Dusty that I had to think deeply to keep him above Josh.

Good post Lovebroker - Magette is needed by the JJs as a floor general point guard first (his benefit to Magnay is significant) and from my perspective would keep him over Dusty.

Similar to you not an acknowledgement of either being a better player.

Although I would argue that Magette is playing and doing what is needed by his team ie controlling the offence and getting some points along with d better than Dusty is living up to the requirements of his team. Dusty is not consistently getting a lot of points whereas Magette is playing as a great point guard along with the bonus of getting some points.

Shows there is nuance in discussion on value and requirements of teams, Adams is going ok (understand he may be out injured tomorrow) and McIntosh is definitely not living up to requirements no doubt.
