i can see him staying for a yr then going to Europe

I can see him staying if it's top marquee money, other wise you would think even Europe would be financially better. Nice signing though.

This 'big announcement' has the same vibe as the Sobey re-signing.
Yup

Not really sure why he signed in NZ this off-season, figured he'd spend it in the US...

Same I find it strange too.
Is Thon Maker also heading to Sydney?
Cooks, Martin and Maker will be the best 3 big man in nbl history.

Cooks doesn't play 3
Import / Bruce / Bayles
Dj / Glover / Noi / Galloway / import
Cooks / Import / Hunter
Hopefully Adams & Martin come back with another wing import. Noi will probably play more 4 than 3 & like they done this year Glover will step up & play 4 at times on the defensive end

i think i heard on the basketball show the nba say cooks as a 3

Cooks is 4/5, plays close to the ring, outside shot not good enough yet, could get there though.

His stroke isn't broken, I think he could be a 35% 3pt shooter with reps, which is probably enough

Cooks is 4/3 imo, what they call a combo forward.

There's no such thing as a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, and hasn't been for years.

Cooks defensively played the 4 and 5 for Sydney this season, ended up playing more 5. He's probably a 3-4 in the NBA though.
Yup

He's prolly closer to Thybulle than anything...kinda positionless

"There's no such thing as a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, and hasn't been for years."
While they're clearly not as defined as they once might have been, they're not gone entirely.
Offensively they're probably less relevant now. Rather than a "point guard" you usually now have a "lead guard" who might be a pass first guy (CP3) or a shoot first guy (Harden) and then a big who are mostly defenders and finishers aside from a few genuine ball dominant bigs. Most of the rest of the players on any team now do much the same thing, in spacing the floor off ball.
Defensively you'll usually see a little more alignment to more traditional positions mostly out of avoiding mismatches, so I think when someone says Cooks will play this position or that position you have to think about who he can defend in the NBA and that mostly comes down to match ups.
