The NBA has just announced it's gone back to the traditional East v West format which is the 100th attempt to tweak it and make it more relevant and competitive like it was in the 80s and 90s.
Is there a way to fix the silly nature of the All Star game which for years has been one big pick up game with massive scores and no defense?

Which is why the NBA won't make it USA v World - too much chance of embarrassment for the USA. Any loss would drive fans and sponsors away.

If you like the USA v The World All Stars scenario but fear the USA would get beaten, then just pick a Washington General's type team.
So USA play as USA Globetrotters V The Rest Of The World Generals. If Embid won't play for the "home" side then he doesn't get picked against them either.

US v The World has potentially to be really great. Would be perfect for the format if World got up, the hype and build-up for a 'redemption' the following season would be the best thing to happen to the all-star weekend. Just needs some balls to get it going in the first place, then it could have some Ryder Cup style potential.
