Premier League Round 15

Rankings

1. Mount Gambier
2. North
3. Forestville
4. Norwood
5. Southern
6. Centrals
7. West
8. Woodville
9. Sturt
10. Eastern
11. South

Mt Gambier vs Centrals
Pioneers are rolling at the moment with Barkley and Daly both looking like potential Wollacott candidates. Centrals had a miraculous win short handed vs Eastern but won't compete with the top 5 unless at full strength.

Pioneers by 14.

Southern vs Eastern
Tight contest that went into overtime last time. Tigers form has been good enough since then, getting wins but putting themselves in tough positions even against weaker teams. Interesting to see how Gilligan settles in after coming off the bench his first weekend. Morris still leading the Mavs to competitive losses but hasn't had consistent enough support for more wins.

Southern by 7.

Sturt vs West
A couple of semi competitive losses for Sturt a fortnight ago and the return of Carter has to help. Jefferson a lone bright spark in an otherwise lost season for the Bearcats.

Bearcats by 6.

North vs Norwood
Battles between top 5 teams are worth a mint right now with finals positions up for grabs. Norwood took the win early in the season, but it feels as though North are starting to work out how to play with each other and Norwood seem to be sputtering.

North by 8.

Woodville vs South
These games have nothing on the line besides pride. South pushed Southern but ultimately showed a lack of maturity on the court and sidelines blowing a huge lead. Perry has missed some games so not sure what his deal is, maybe been sent home? Woodville should still be too big in this one.

Woodville by 4.

Forestville vs West
Pre season this would have been earmarked as a blockbuster. As it is now, you'ld expect a full strength Forestville to handle West quite easily.

Forestville by 15.

Kubank not in GC, he's in Brisbane for Bullets workout. Won't be back for game I assume.

Some big results tonight. My Gambier by more than 50 over lions and Rockets by 30 + over Norwood.

Did anyone see that game. Is Norwoods lack of depth now catching up with them or are Rockets that good?

Norwood overachieved early, close wins vs north, mt gambier and forestville, now they're coming back to earth. Moultrie hasn't really given that true big they were lacking. Vice versa has taken North a bit to get together with all their major additions, now it looks like the chemistry is coming good.
Centrals season has been a mirage, beaten Sturt, Eastern, South and Woodville as expected. Looked like a huge win against West but they've turned into this year's biggest underachievers. Then taken Riewer hitting 8 from 8 3s vs Norwood to upset them. Despite picking up really good players in off season in Diing and Luk they've just relied on talent to beat bottom dwellers. And most of first half of season been home games, expect 2nd half to get real ugly for them, defensively they've been terrible giving up over 100 multiple times. Looking at stats tonight the comparison in rebounds, turnovers and steals amazing, even though pioneers true contenders.Top 5 is now set.

We looked really good last night but Lions just had nothing inside to match us as they literally have some kids playing now. Game got ugly early but credit Centrals for still fighting. Riewer only import left as I was told Jones left for South America. They are just a super young team with no true center or forward. I still think they will win at least 3 of the next 5.

Rockets vs Norwood games turned into shambles as the refs completely dominated the match. Felt like there was 100 fouls called. It was really exciting game with a lot of athleticism on display. It was single digits for a lot of it until Brine received his final trash call and subsequently fouled out. Disappointing as we want to see the best players play. Had the makings to be a real solid game all the way to the end. Solid win for North in the end

Norwood vs rockets was looking to be a fantastic game and it was really close for the first half.

Unfortunately the foul calling was very inconsistent and hard to play around, they'd let a lot of contact slide but then randomly pick someone up on a really soft foul.
Brine received a lot of these calls and was forced out of the game easy making the defensive presence lack very heavily.

Once BJ got ejected it spiralled into chaos with the refs handing technicals out one after the other until they felt they had control of the game which they never seemed to get.

Could have been a great game had some things gone differently very unfortunate.

I wouldn’t count Norwood out, they have some redemption games coming up and will need to fight their way back into the season in order to be respected.

While they may have been good servants for Norwood the Webber brothers need to either retire or become players off the bench.

Their output does not warrant the time they get especially on Saturday against the Rockets. They played over 60 minutes combined for negligible points, rebounds or assists

Norwood will not climb the rankings with their lack of depth which they try to cover by giving unwarranted minutes to these two

Refs well nothing changes.... they don't know half time which call to make or not make. Can be certain it only getting worse. When will they realise no one cares about their pissy look at us attitude. Make the calls and get out of the way.

KB tried to change the culture when he was there, thing is the Webbers have way too much power. Cooper had the respect to keep them in line when he coached, now they can do what they want. Always have respected the way they play, hard and with passion. Sometimes goes over the line but they always get under the skin of opponents. But who replaces them? Uche if he comes back would but God knows where he will end up. Jordy Wilson is a great reserves player but mainly a scorer so his best position will always be a backup. And juniors always hit a roadblock in 18s so doubt it will come from within soon.
As mentioned previously, KB was looking to phase them slowly out and look where that got him. Willie wasn't in their plans, apparently there was something to do with their nephew not getting a high div so they basically created a new role and kicked him to the curb.

Who's the hottest team right now leading into finals?
Gambier, 12-3, on a five game winning streak and winning by alot including a spanking of Norwood and embarrassing Centrals by huge margins or
Rockets, 12-4, on an eight game winning streak including a recent comfortable win against a Teysless Eagles and also a spanking of Norwood.
Who you got?

Definitely not an eagles fan but if you remember the Semi that got them into the GF vs North. Now that's some high level choking by North there!!! What was it, up by 2 with 2 foul shots and seconds on the clock if memory serves, CJ then lost it.

Centrals are pulling together and really working well as a team now. Just some unlucky games, they'll play in the finals against the cheatgles.

Centrals v forestville and centrals will take it with superior shooting from 3.

28/17/3 in a 27 point loss - POTW winner

or 36/11/4 in a 29 point win

or 30/7/7 in a 27 point win

or 29/17/4 in a 25 point win

"Questionable" is one way to put it.

Have to give Centrals something, women not winning a game all year despite paying BIG money for KB and Boone and wheels completely falling off for men, absolutely embarrassing loss at the mount. Despite hype have only beaten good side in Norwood with lots of home games. Expect Norwood to inflict some revenge this week, young team will fall apart I'm predicting, very little structure both sides of ball. Relying on their talented African kids to score individually, confidence could really hit lows in coming weeks. No way in he'll they compete for final playoff spot, will be trying hard to beat Woodville, Sturt and South with no inside game.

If it's the same dudes choosing POTW as who does the write ups on the PL website, it's understandable. They are not basketball minds yet and still learning the trade. I wouldn't be too hard on them and any player who gets worked up on not being POTR when they think they should be, should take a hard look at themselves. Be more concerned whether your team won or lost and how you can get better. And if you're really legit don't read anything, period!
