36ers signings etc

Catt's gone, rees has signed, and farley is meant to as well. Why oh why wont the 36ers website say anything? Its official on catt and rees... No kudos to the website. I'd like to be told by the club first rather than by the media.

Well to be honest Timmy, if you come to this site, you will find out things well before the official site tells you anything.

Considering the vast networking we have in here with Isaac, Julius, Fact Man, Bootney, Double Clutch and myself (apologies to any regular informants I missed), this site really has its finger on the pulse of not only basketball in SA, but pretty much across the country.

While it is disappointing to see Cat go, it is great to hear that we have signed Rees and Farley.

It will be awesome to see Farley as a 36er again!

That leaves us with a current line up of:

PG Maher
SG Farley
SF Holmes
PF Rychart
C Rees

Nash
Forman

It will be interesting to see who they go after with their final 3 spots. I would presume Ng will get one and they will go after an Australian big man and a rookie to round out the roster.

We sure are looking a whole lot more balanced and the above team will definitely be competitive.

I think most importantly is that while Rogers and Cat are going to be Olympians, their contracts that would have buried us as a result of the lower cap for the next 3 years are now gone.

Good on the coaching staff and management for re-signing Holmes, Rychart and picking up Rees and Farley. If we can pick up Moore or another decent big man I would say that we have had a great off season.

What do others think?

I am also happy to hear that Ingles and Dodman are in the training squad. I don't know anything about the other two but it is good that we are looking at the guys with the most potential in these positions.

Benson (one of the other two you didn't know) is a young Sturt guy. Unassuming, but not scared to take open shots from outside and gets rebounds. Reminds me of Cattalini, but that might just be a slight similarity in looks more than playing style.

Right now, I think he's playing behind Wilkey and maybe Gower, but does well enough in his minutes. I think he'll be a more stable and starting contributor for Sturt in a year or so.

Everyone a winner as Cat walks

By Boti Nagy.

"The Adelaide 36ers have lost Sydney Olympic forward Martin Cattalini to Spain's DKV Joventut for the 2004-05 season (Ed: reported first at Ozhoops, then here, and finally confirmed by Eurobasket)."

"Cattalini, in Italy with the Boomers, yesterday formally informed coach Phil Smyth and chairman Brenton Higgins of his decision to accept the lucrative opportunity to again play basketball in Europe after spending two years in Seville in 2001-02."

It puts a tentative value on Cat's one-year Euro contract ($717k), and says that 3 players are likely to be signed simultaneously.

There've been pretty strong indications that these three are Farley, Rees and Ng. Let's hope that Rees and Ng are already signed, and the three are Farley and another two good names to fill the roster.

I guess we'll find out more eventually.

According to Ten news last night, Rees is a done deal and we are only waiting for the formalities to be completed re Farley.

Like you said, it would be good to complete our roster with another couple of decent players but I would be happy with one.

We need another Australian bigman to complete our roster such as Derek Moore. Obviously if the final position on our roster was taken by a quality player with NBL experience then that would be even better.

My final 5 positions would go to Farley, Moore, Rees, Ng and a back-up point guard in case Maher's back flares up. Ng can be valuable off the bench but I don't think he could handle point guard should Maher have to miss any games. No one else on the roster can either.

Interesting times ahead but Farley coming back to the 36ers was the best news possible in the circumstances.

My tip is Farley and Rychart will be the best import duo in the league. These two could easily average 50 points a game combined.

i dont think so. i honestly rate reggie pretty highly, but just dont think he could contain nbl starting point guards if maher needed a rest, but having said this, someone needs to back up maher, and i cant think of too many people i would have above reggie at this stage, maybe the old boy is worth a shot....good height??...thoughts??
